TX-NR515 - Monitor out issues (no picture) - Page 7 Empty Re: TX-NR515 - Monitor out issues (no picture)

Post  Jeron Sat Jun 16, 2012 12:05 am

I plugged my TX-NR616 into a timer that "unplugs" it and plugs it back in in the middle of the night to "reset the HDMI".

That seems to help reduce the frequency of failure.

Got a new firmware update in the last day or so. Seems to be working but I don't want to call it fixed until I go a week or so without HDMI switching off. Will come back in a week and update but so far it's looking good.

TX-NR515 - Monitor out issues (no picture) - Page 7 Empty Up to date NR515

Post  tedgocal Sat Jun 16, 2012 2:30 pm

I had updated to 1080-6103-0100. I tried to install 1100-6103-0100, but it wouldn't take it. Yesterday and today it notified me that an update to 1080-6103-0100 was available. I already had that installed, but I ran it, figuring it's gonna do what it's gonna do. It downloaded (something) OK and installed OK, then started downloading something else. It stopped at 22%. After a half hour or so I tried unplugging the ethernet cable. That didn't work so I tried restarting my cable modem & router. That didn't work so I turned off the unit (Standby). After turning it back on I had no picture. The unit's display said there was a firmware update available. I was able to start it using the unit's display.

It downloaded and installed twice in a row then said it was complete. I hit the power button again and it turned off. It turned itself back on a few seconds later. I had picture, all of my settings were still there and it has firmware 1110-8103-0300.

It was a rocky road getting there. I hope it solves the no picture in standby problem. I wouldn't have put up with this nonsense If I didn't think the receiver was worth the trouble.

TX-NR515 - Monitor out issues (no picture) - Page 7 Empty Re: TX-NR515 - Monitor out issues (no picture)

Post  nexusseven Sat Jun 16, 2012 5:06 pm

Just checking in from the UK to say I have the same problem.

I only bought my system yesterday, and usually the unit remains in ARC mode. Wife and I attempted to watch a Bluray this evening to find the HDMI output was dead. Needed to power cycle it to fix the problem.
The unit has the latest firmware.

This is my third Onkyo system in 5 months. I had two 609s that died - I'm beginning to lose faith in Onkyo.

TX-NR515 - Monitor out issues (no picture) - Page 7 Empty Another Disappointed User

Post  ernestshackleton Sun Jun 17, 2012 1:57 pm

I have been having this problem ever since I got the unit, but never investigated it. I have just left my receiver on 24/7 to avoid the issue. I was using the IOS app to control the device (if the designers of this app are the same ones who designed the software or the 515 we are all screwed). However, I just installed a Crestron control system which has power on and off macros. I just loaded all the latest firmware updates on the receiver yesterday and the problem is still there.

I would return, but it has been more than 30 days since I bought the unit. Going to try the factory warranty route.

I think the root of the problem is that HDMI is worst interface ever conceived. There are many other manufactures struggling to implement this interface, some are better than others. However, Onkyo seems to have many general problems with their software engineering. This will be the last Onkyo product I buy.

TX-NR515 - Monitor out issues (no picture) - Page 7 Empty TX-NR515 monitor issues when Network stand by enbaled

Post  toto Sun Jun 17, 2012 11:34 pm

I have enabled Network Stan-by to avoid the power on issues with the remote control. However I noticed that when ever Network Stand by is enabled I start to get the Monitor out problems that requires to unplug the power cord to recover. But when I put the Network Stan-by to off I have no Monitor out problems.

Did anyone else experience the same?

TX-NR515 - Monitor out issues (no picture) - Page 7 Empty No joy with 1110-8103-0300

Post  tedgocal Mon Jun 18, 2012 7:16 am

The 1110-8103-0300 did not fix the problem for me. I have CBL/SAT set for the standby through input. I turned my DirecTV and TV on this morning and got a blue screen. I unplugged the NR515 and plugged it back in and got picture.

- Ted Gocal

UPDATE - Network standby was off. I see postings that say to turn it on to solve the monitor problem and I see postings that say the opposite.

TX-NR515 - Monitor out issues (no picture) - Page 7 Empty Firmware 1110-810x-0300 doesn't solve the issue on my unit

Post  MusicHK Wed Jun 20, 2012 3:08 am

Too bad, the new firmware doesn't solve the old issue on my TX-NR515.

I tested it for 3 days now. The same problem did occur again. I had Network standby disabled (i.e. setting Network Standby = OFF) when testing.

I guess we have to wait for further firmware update then?

I had ZERO problems until I turned ON the network standby. Now I get the problem with the HDMI out. I'm considering turning the network standby OFF but I really want to be able to turn the unit on with my Android. Sad

TX-NR515 - Monitor out issues (no picture) - Page 7 Empty Firmware still doesn't work......................

Post  Jonginear Fri Jun 22, 2012 12:06 pm

Hi Onkyo
Looks like multiple users have posted that the latest attempt at resolving the HDMI video out failure through firmware updates has not resolved the issue.
Any idea if yet another firmware update is in the works or have you decided to give up on this problem and start working on some additional features that we don't need?
I would suggest that every software engineer in your employ be assigned to resolving this issue and get it fixed as soon as possible.
Do you really expect your customers to be patient guinnea pigs for much longer?
I can't imagine how many "B" stock units are going to be flooding the market at the end of this years product cycle.............

TX-NR515 - Monitor out issues (no picture) - Page 7 Empty Your call center.

Post  cpmmk1 Fri Jun 22, 2012 1:53 pm

The problem continues.

OK, thanks for the reply. HOWEVER, I called your call center because I hadn't seen a response on this forum. You should do yourselves a favor. Those guys never even heard of Onkyo, much less the TX NR515, or have even the slightest clue about the ongoing issues we are having. So you call and they run you through the troubleshooting punchlist, which I suspect is the same for Onkyo vacuum cleaners, microwave ovens and receivers, which includes blaming the peripherals, electric, and anything else to deflect from what, if you took 5 seconds to see, is an ongoing problem that the company, in this forum is at least aware of. Do us all a favor, fix this problem, and while you are at it, straighten out those people in NJ. They are a waste of time. How about an email to them or something?

TX-NR515 - Monitor out issues (no picture) - Page 7 Empty sick of this

Post  likeahoss Fri Jun 22, 2012 2:45 pm

I'm sick of being your beta tester. When I buy a product I expect it to work as advertised. I'm returning this piece of junk and giving it horrible reviews.

ANOTHER ISSUE: having to unplug and plug HDMI from my computer in order for the DTS signal and all audio capabilities to be obtained by the receiver. JUNK.

Post  likeahoss Sat Jun 23, 2012 2:04 pm

Issues I'm experiencing at the moment with the latest firmware (I check every day):

Simply adjusting the volume!! It constantly MUTES itself. I have to UNMUTE it manually after simply just adjusting the volume up or down a notch or 20, it doesn't matter.

HDMI Output: black screen. I have to physically unplug the unit's power and plug it back in for the screen to come on.

HDMI Input: I have to unplug and replug the HDMI plug for the DTS signal and audio capabilities to be recognized by the receiver.

More to follow....

TX-NR515 - Monitor out issues (no picture) - Page 7 Empty no hdmi output from composite or component sources.

Post  smashpwnage Sat Jun 23, 2012 9:27 pm

Anyone else not able to get video to output over hdmi from analog sources? The 515 is supposed to do this, right?

I have my nintendo hooked up to the 515 in the "game" composite input. I cannot get the receiver to output any picture over hdmi to my tv. I will get sound, and when I run the video cable directly to my set, I get picture. So I know its the 515.

I also tested this with my xbox 360 using the component input. Again, it will not output video over hdmi.

I've owned the 605 and used the 609, and am familiar with the setup menus. Had both those units outputing over hdmi fine.

I've updated the the latest firmware and the problem persists. This is the second 515 I've had with the issue. I returned the first one because I thought it was faulty, but apparently that was not an isolated case. I'm sure this is a problem across all 515's. Can any other owners verify? Owners of Higher models? 616 and up have this problem?

TX-NR515 - Monitor out issues (no picture) - Page 7 Empty Same problem with the 616

Post  xeryax Sun Jun 24, 2012 12:25 pm

I too am having this same problem, although I have the 616. I haven't had the unit long enough to know if this existed before the latest firmware update... I will ride the problem out until my last opportunity to return the unit... If it is not fixed by then, i will have to return it.

TX-NR515 - Monitor out issues (no picture) - Page 7 Empty Component video sources

Post  timbock2 Mon Jun 25, 2012 6:39 pm

Hi, smashpwnage and xeryax,

In another forum, Onkyo said you need to downgrade the source to 480i first, then the HDMI will upscale it to 1080. Seems insane to downgrade to upgrade, but it's worth a shot if you haven't already tried it. Here's the other forum: https://onkyoproductsupport.forumotion.com/t739-tx-nr515-no-upscale-from-composite-or-component?highlight=composite+upscale+515

I'm curious...have you seen the video out failures others here have (requiring unplugging & replugging the receiver)?

TX-NR515 - Monitor out issues (no picture) - Page 7 Empty Re: TX-NR515 - Monitor out issues (no picture)

Post  pla Fri Jun 29, 2012 8:09 am

Greetings from Finland.

When I bought Onkyo TX-NR515 in the beginning of May, I had the same issue as other customers have posted in this topic (ie. no output from HDMI after a night's power off. I've updated the firmwares that have been published and the two previous firmware updates (released after mid-May but before the 26th June update) seemed to work well since after updating I've had had no problems even after several days without turning on the receiver.

However, yesterday evening I updated the last firmware version (1110-8106-0300), and this morning the original problem had returned (ie. I had to unplug the power cord to get the HDMI functional). I tried to downgrade to the previous firmware via USB, however the receiver did not allow the downgrade.

Of course this morning's incident may be just coincidence but I'm not so sure about it. Let's see if the issue persists. If it does, it seems that the last upgrade created problems instead of solving them, at least for me. While I'm waiting for the possible next update, I'd like to know if firmware downgrading is somehow possible?

Network standby is OFF, and Onkyo is not connected to network.

TX-NR515 - Monitor out issues (no picture) - Page 7 Empty Me Too With My New 616 And Another Strange Glitch

Post  Stereo Steve Fri Jun 29, 2012 4:45 pm

Well, I’ve got the TX-NR616 and have the same HDMI “no picture” issue everybody is talking about twice in the past 4 days. To troubleshoot, I went directly from the DVR to the TV and it worked fine. This is the same for all devices; DirecTV DVR, Blu-Ray or Game input. Power off/on is the only thing that works. I'm glad I found this forum but am watching and waiting with the rest...

Additionally and maybe related or not, is when I turn the AVR off, I always leave it in the STB/DVR input mode. When I turn on the TV and DVR only, about 50% of the time they turn on fine and picture and sound pass through to the TV as expected. The other 50% however there is nothing. I turn on the AVR, or sometimes log-on via the Android app to find that it has switched to the “TV/CD” input. I change it to the STB/DVR input and all is as it was. Why doesn’t it stay on the same input while in standby mode? And it’s not like I’ve turned on any other devices during the last time I had it on either. It’s just a ghost.

Out of curiosity does your HDTV have CEC enabled? Denon's lose HDMI pass through as well. I was wondering if this is happening: http://denon.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/439/session/L3RpbWUvMTM0MTU1MDE1MC9zaWQvSEt6aUxxKms%3D

"When I'm using HDMI Control - Standby Pass Through why does my audio and video signal drop out completely?

This will occur when your TV's CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) function sends a communication to the receiver. When this communication occurs the receiver switches to its "TV" source to accept the CEC communication from the TV and then communicate back to the TV.

Being that the receiver is already in Standby and there's no display being output, there would be no way to see the source switch to "TV." The result then becomes a loss of audio and video to the TV as the receiver is no longer passing the HDMI input signal from the specific input you've set it to or using the "Last" source when the unit was powered
on."
