Back speakers not working with DVD only
We have an Onkyo model TX-NR609 home theatre receiver. We had it professionally installed and it works perfectly with the TV but the back speakers do not work with the blue Ray DVD. I have search every possible setting I can find but cannot find the problem. Our Blue Ray is a Sony and our TV is a Sony Bravia flat screen. Does anyone have any suggestions???? Thanks.

Hi dennisinchicago,
There are a couple things, one is has it worked on those speakers before and two is how many speakers did the installer setup for you?

I don't think the back speakers ever worked with the DVD. He installed 6 speakers: center, 2 front side, woofer and 2 back speakers.

Hi dennisinchicago,
Do you hear static noise when using the level calibration in the speaker setup menu?
Setup => speaker setup => level cal

If you are asking if I hear noise in all the speakers when I do the speaker volume calibration - yes. The speakers work fine and at the right sound levels.

Hi dennisinchicago,
If your speakers are working fine when the "level cal" is selected then the unit does not have an issue, it is most likely the source material that's not putting out the proper signal to have your rear speakers work.

Or could a receiver setting be wrong? Or perhaps the DVD is not connected to the receiver in the right way, thorugh the right port?

Hi dennisinchicago,
Have you tried to reset the receiver yet? To do the reset you need to turn the receiver on, then on the front panel of the receiver press and hold the "VCR/DVR" button while doing that press the "STANDBY/ON" button. You will see the word "Clear" in the display screen and the receiver will go into standby mode. PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR AUDIO & VIDEO ASSIGNMENTS ON THE RECEIVER PLUS YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR SPEAKER CONFIGURATIONS, SPEAKER DISTANCE AND ALL LEVEL CALIBRATION SETTINGS. YOU WILL ALSO LOSE ANY PROGRAMMED RADIO STATIONS IN MEMORY. Once the receiver goes into standby mode turn it back on and go thru the setup menu for all custom settings. If this doesn't resolve it then I would suggest taking it to a service center for evaluation. Authorized service centers can be found on our main page under support.
