RC-180 No sound

I bought this unit in March of 2010, and have used it little so far this spring/summer. Over the course of this past month I've noticed that although I have picture across all HDMI outputs, I have no audio. The display also isn't showing any speakers. The speakers are working, as I hear a 'thud' when I turn the unit on/off. At first, a hard reset used to fix the problem, but not tonight nothing is working. Leaving it unplugged, turning on/off, hard resets, etc. I've searched around and it seems that this is a very common problem? What is the cause/fixes? Could the firmware be the problem?
