HT-RC180 HDMI board issues
Looks like this model also succumbed to the problems of its cousin, the TX-NR807.
Problem:
No speaker indicators on the VFD, Network is totally dead.
Troubleshooting steps:
1. Power cycle - no change
2. Pulled power cord, plugged back in - no change
3. Full system reset (Power TV/VCR) - no change
4. Change network cable, reboot router - no change
5. Left unplugged overnight - no change
So what's the next step?

Hi rworne,
Please contact our parts and service department at 201-785-2600 option #4 to see what they can do for you at this time.
Thank you.

Parts department: No joy
Called and they said "No help unless you email us".
I emailed and they said they want a copy of the receipt. I do not have the receipt since it is a year out of warranty. I told them as much and now they don't reply (been a few days, and longer than the initial contact).
I'm getting a sinking feeling they are planning on denying the repair.

Re: HT-RC180 HDMI board issues
rworne, this ebay seller fixes HDMI boards:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/REPAIR-SERVICE-ONKYO-HT-RC180-TX-SR707-TX-NR807-HDMI-BOARD-NO-AUDIO-OR-VIDEO-/300738495241
I have no affiliation but I bought a replacement HDMI board for another AVR from that seller and it worked for me. The price is good.

Thanks for the info, but in my case the repair should be covered by the manufacturer.
It's been a week now and I have had no reply from the parts department regarding the repair after their receipt demand.
So what now? Does it sit packed in its box by the front door while I try to convince the wife it's a new piece of furniture?

Re: HT-RC180 HDMI board issues
There is an extended service program in place for these models, pretty much any TX-NRX07 model, including derivative models like the HT-RC180, that experience HDMI board failures.
Lots of units from this series have been failing just after the warranty expired, and Onkyo has been repairing them as recently as last week, even though none of these units should be in warranty - they were sold about 3 years go.
The point is, it has to be an HDMI board failure. Mine definitely has this issue.

Read the "Onkyo TX-NR807 Official Thread" on AVSForum (especially the last few pages) to hear about all the problems... And this is just the 807!

More than a week and no email response from the parts department, no replies to PM's here either.

In all fairness to Onkyo, I need to post this followup:
I did call parts again and got a more helpful rep. Fry's also helped by barfing up a copy of a 3 year old receipt.
We got the ball rolling and the repair was authorized late last week. The unit is already repaired and is on the FedEx truck now to be delivered back to my house.

cascading HDMI failure
Has anyone seen an Onkyo HDMI failure where every connected HDMI device has its HDMI port killed?
This has happened twice to me, once with a 707 and recently with a 709, both units were within warranty and repaired, but they destroyed a lot of gear which was not.
If you plug in a new monitor or source via HDMI, the receiver kills it too, so whatever the failure is, it's not transient.
Is this a common problem with the 700 series? Is there a fix?

cascading HDMI failure
Your issue needs to evaluated further; please contact our Product Support department via phone or email (onkyoadmin@us.onkyo.com) and describe the issue and conditions that have affected your receivers. Did you suffer from any power surges or weather/ storm related incidents? What model TV and components have you connected onto the receivers? Where was the units serviced?
