TX-NR5008 vs TX-NR5009 Questions

I have a friend of mine that owns an electronics store and is a certified Onkyo dealer. He has a brand new sealed box TX-NR5008 that he wants to sell cheap. He said it costs less because it is replaced by the TX-NR5009 model. What are the differences of these two models besides the difference in years? It looks like to me that if I updated the firmware on the 5008 it would be the same as the 5009 or is there some major differences between the two and would it be worth spending an extra $1,400.00 on the TX-NR5009?
