TX-NR5009 Operating Temperature Empty TX-NR5009 Operating Temperature

In the TX-NR5009 user manual, Onkyo has indicated that during normal operation of the AVR, the top panel may get warm to touch and that this was normal. I checked the temperature of the top panel towards the right and left of the AVR and recorded temp around 47oC (ambient temp: 20-21oC) when the receiver has been operating for about 5 hours. My question is, is this normal and what is the maximum acceptable temp especially since in the summer ambient temp may go up.

To owners of this AVR, have you noticed any temp issues?

Thank you in advance for your response.

Hi Pesiba,

This is a common question that we often get. There are several factors involved in the temperature of the unit. The standard is 80 to 90 Degrees above the ambient room temperature. This unit does in fact have internal fans and as to when the fans kick on that has to do with what is connected and how much the device draws and the impedances of the various connected devices as well as if you have the unit in a cabinet with the proper ventilation and if you have the powered zone-2 active or on and whether or not the HDMI control and pass-thru feature is enabled.
