TX-NR609 analog problem
Hi There,
I would like to use the S/PDIF input of my Onkyo TX-NR 609 and listen to my music through the speaker set (B&W CM5).
I've been using the Game mode for this, what am I doing wrong?
Thanks!

Re: TX-NR609 analog problem
Hi RunningBread,
Simply select the input on the back of the receiver, and then make the necessary assignment on the 609 under the digital audio input (Setup => Input/output assign => digital audio input). Make sure that your player is set to output the correct cable such as either optical or digital coaxial or analog...

I have the S/PDIF plugged in but no HDMI connected to the Game (just want sound). Settings for Game is set to digital audio input but there's still no sound.

Hi RunningBread,
What do you have the Optical 1 assigned too? In other words is it BD/DVD, CBL/SAT, VCR/DVR etc..?

Oh - it's assigned to my computer's sound card.
I've also tried connecting my computer through HDMI. It didn't recognize the NR-609 until I connected the OUT HDMI to an external monitor.
Is it not possible to just play audio???

Re: TX-NR609 analog problem
Ok let me start from scratch.
My setup is:
PC with sound card using spdif out <-------> Onkyo nr609 digital in optical 1 (game)
My speakers are connected to Front 5.1ch L & R
Onkyo is at Game mode/input with audio assigned to optical 1.
I'm not getting any audio from my speakers.
This is my primary problem and I want to solve this. No other cable is attached to Onkyo at this moment.
(nothing attached to hdmi out - or anything else)

Hi RunningBread,
Do you have other devices that have optical out on them, if so just as a test can you connect that device to the receiver in optical 1 and see if that works? If not please make sure that your PC is set to output over optical connection.
