pc connection to tx nr609

a question about hooking up my pc to my receiver.
i have an all in one acer computer running windows7. ive tried 2 different hdmi cables attached to hdmi input5. first cable gives me just a blue screen (not a bsod on computer) on my tv. the second cable gives me a blue tv screen as well, but makes my computer screen go black.
both cables give me the sound of like putting in a usb into a computer. will do that 3 or 4 times. but i get nothing on my tv screen.

the video options on my computer have been set as clone mode so whatever is on my comp screen should be on my tv.
i can connect my computer right to the tv and get picture but not thru the receiver.

am i missing a setting? its been 2 different hdmi cables and its quite confusing. its not the cable because both have been connected to a different onkyo receiver connecting a ps3.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
