Onkyo RC-360 sometimes does not output audio when turning on.
I've noticed this problem I have with my Onkyo RC360. Sometimes when I turn on my cable box, receiver and TV, I will get a video picture on my TV but no audio coming through the speakers. If I turn off the receiver and then turn it back on it usually fixes the problem (sometimes I may have to turn it on/off multiple times). This happens maybe 15% of the time when I want to watch TV. Is there a fix for this problem?

Hi Enyar,
Have you checked the cables to make sure they are inserted nice and tight?
Thank you,

Cables are good, plus if the problem remedies itself by turning on/off the receiver by remote I doubt it would move the cables at all. Not only that, since my receiver still puts out a signal to my TV for video I would think the proves the issue is with the receiver.

Hi Enyar,
Thank you for the information. Please PM me the serial number from the back of the receiver and I will check a little further for you.

The problem is the HDCP handshake. Look it up in Google. ONKYO receivers have a problem with the HDCP handshake which is an industry standard for copy protection. If the HDMI board does not get the proper handshake audio and or video is not output.

Re: Onkyo RC-360 sometimes does not output audio when turning on.
I'm having this same issue. It seems to have started about a week ago and happens everyday since. I usually leave receiver in standby power mode and use the hdmi passthrough to game on the Xbox, but lately that's been a problem because of this. I have made no changes myself to any of the compnents before this started happening. Audio out of receiver works fine, just not HDMI passthrough audio to TV.
HDMI devices hooked to my HT-RC360 are an Xbox360 and Sony BD-S570 Bluray player. TV is a 50" Insignia that's a couple months old.
Have to start turning things off and on (HDMI devices, Receiver, etc.) and finally will get audio. Video passes through fine, just audio doesn't want to passthrough to TV.

Re: Onkyo RC-360 sometimes does not output audio when turning on.
Well it has been escalated. No audio or video output AT ALL. Came home one day and nothing. I tried different HDMI cords and reset the receiver but to no avail. Then I bypassed the receiver and the signal was fine so I know its not my Blu Ray player/cable box. Pretty upset because the "authorized service centers" Onkyo recommended me have awful reviews so who knows how long this will take.

Just lovely. My receiver has been in the repair shop since the 8th and I just called and they said that I shouldn't expect to receive it for at least another 10 days. Onkyo product support is awful, will be buying a Yamaha next time.

ANOTHER UPDATE:
Still haven't received my receiver. I spoke with the repair shop and now they are saying that the part won't be back in stock until October 15th. On top of that, she said that they usually have a 80% casualty rating when shipping receivers back to their owners. So not only is it going to be a solid 2 months to get this receiver fixed, but there is an 80% chance that it is going to be broken AGAIN before it gets to me. What a joke.
Also, I appreciate the concern here on the forum when the admin says they will look into it but the only thing I got out of it was an email wanting to confirm my username. Haven't heard another single thing so as far as I can tell its just damage control to make it look like Onkyo has customer service which they don't.
It's not like I wanted surround sound for football season anyway.
Signed, An extremely unhappy customer

I appreciate you emailing me after I raised my concern again on the website. Did you happen to get my response? What happens if the receiver is damaged during return shipping? Do I have to pay to send it back again?

Re: Onkyo RC-360 sometimes does not output audio when turning on.
Well after 2 months and 10 days, I received my reciever. They did manage to put a scratch in the front but it's not too bad.
Having issues getting it to work though. Using HDMI, I have my bluray and cable box running to the receiver. Also with HDMI, I have the cable box connected to the TV. Blu ray player works fine but my cable box does not. If I unplug my blu ray player and use that HDMI for the cable box it does not work. If I run HDMI from the cable box straight to the TV it works fine. So I know its not my HDMI cable and its not the cable box. Some sort of setting on the receiver?
I tried calling Onkyo support and tried their call back feature. After 2.5 hours I never heard from them. I called them back and after being on hold for 45 minutes it went to voicemail. I was never called back so hopefully someone here can help me.

Re: Onkyo RC-360 sometimes does not output audio when turning on.
I hate to say it, but I'm back.
I went to watch some football tonight and of course, no signal. Cable box direct to TV worked fine so the receiver is acting up again. If I unplugged the HDMI out from the receiver, I would get audio (through surround sound) but obviously no video. If I plug it in, nothing works.
Called Onkyo product support. Got through right away and the person I was talking to was great. Really friendly and nice guy. Problem is his recommendation. Either keep resetting the receiver (I love running Audyssey and changing all my settings every week ) or get this "might want to sell it and get something else". At this point I am considering taking his advice and switching to Yamaha or Denon.
I'm sick of rerunning Audyssey, entering my Pandora login information, changing my zone 2 settings, etc etc. Surely resetting the receiver isn't my only option....is it?

Update:
I mailed the receiver in for a second time 12/14/2012. It is now 1/10/2013 and still nothing. Can I get a status update?

Coincidentally, I just received a call from the repair center saying they are waiting on parts... I missed all relevant bowl games and the national championship, now the play offs and I wouldn't be surprised if I missed the superbowl.

Re: Onkyo RC-360 sometimes does not output audio when turning on.
This receiver will be the end of me!
I received the receiver today, hooked it up and same exact issue. Is there some sort of setting I should be looking at?
Situation:
Cable box is connected to the receiver via HDMI, which is then hooked up to the tv with HDMI.
If I turn on the TV and/or cable box first, and then the receiver... I get a video signal but no audio, or sometimes no audio or video. If I turn the receiver on first, everything works fine.
Previously, with this setup (same cables and everything), this worked fine. Back in the fall is when this issue started. Also, when the receiver was out for repair, I had the same HDMI cable connecting the cable box to the TV and I haven't had 1 single issue. As soon as I get the receiver back today, I started having issues again. It's been repaired TWICE, surely something else is up?
