HT-R990 - No sound even with mic test

I was watching a movie when the receiver all of a sudden went silent. The video still plays. I tried resetting the receiver with VCR/DVR and power, but sill no sound from setting up the system with the setup mic. Video from the blu-ray player still plays fine, but no audio so I don't suspect a HDMI issue.

To rule out faulty wiring with the speakers, I tried hooking up my old receiver and it worked. So I think it is likely that the receiver's speaker connector is damaged. Is that possible?
