TX-NR509 setup question for HDMI through function
I am trying to setup my components so i can receive the audio and video signal on my tv, while the tx-nr509 unit is turned off. (for the times i want to watch tv but not play the audio thru the receiver speakers.)
I have 3 components connected to the unit all by HDMI:
1) samsung blueray player connected to the BD/DVD HDMI in.
2) cable sat box connected to the CBL/SAT HDMI in.
3) samsung tv connected to the HDMI out:
all the units play fine while the tx-nr509 is on, video is displayed on the TV and audio plays thru the tx-nr509 speakers. but when the tx-nr509 is turned off the video and audio signals to the tv are lost. (screen goes snowy and no audio on tv).
any suggestions are appreciated, thanks.

Re: TX-NR509 setup question for HDMI through function
Hi doug12,
HDMI Thru can be turned on in the Hardware setup menu. Once there go into the HDMI menu. The follow the steps on page 66 of your owner's manual. If you do not have a manual here is information on how to download one: http://onkyousacustomersupportblog.wordpress.com/2011/09/13/owner%e2%80%99s-manuals/ Thank you for contacting Onkyo via our forum.

Re: TX-NR509 setup question for HDMI through function
thank you support , I was able to turn on the hdmi thru. now when the TX-NR509 is in standby both the cbl/sat and bd/dvd video and audio are played thru the HDMI out to the tv when the respective components are selected.
but now have another setup issue. The HDMI thru function is disabled when the BD/DVD component is turned off. after being turned on. For example
when the TX-NR509 unit is in standby, the HDMI indicator light is displayed on the front panel. when i play the component connected to the BD/DVD the video and audio signal is played thru HDMI out to the TV, everything is working fine at this point... but when i turn off the BD/DVD component, the HDMI indicator light goes off on the TX-NR509 display and the HDMI signal is not sent thru to the HDMI out to the TV. At this point the HDMI out connection is not recognized on the TV. The only way to get the signal back thru the HDMI out is to power on the TX-NR509. Is there a setup function that needs to be configured to prevent the HDMI thru from switching off, when the connected component is turned off?

Hi doug12,
Please set the "HDMI THRU" to auto and see if that resolves the issue for you.

Re: TX-NR509 setup question for HDMI through function
Hi doug12,
Is there any lag time when this happens, such as when you turn the player off how long does it take for the HDMI light to go off on the receiver?

Re: TX-NR509 setup question for HDMI through function
the blue light "HDMI" on the display goes out when the bd/dvd player is turned off. the amber HMDI through light on the right side of the unit stays lit.
when this occurs the HDMI connection to the TV is no longer recognized as a connection. The connection only appears, and is available for use on the TV, after turning on the receiver.

Hi doug12,
Do you know what software version is on the TX-NR509? To find this you would go into the setup => Update.

Re: TX-NR509 setup question for HDMI through function
I apologize that you have to wait so long for a response; but I was able to have this functional on our receiver on-site. I used the following configurations:
- Samsung 3D/ ARC ready 47" LED television (HDMI cable from MONITOR OUT of receiver to HDMI 2 [ARC labeled] input on rear of TV)
- Direct TV 3D capable set top box (HDMI cable from DIRECT TV into HDMI 3 [CBL/SAT] input on rear of TX-NR 509)
- Integra DBS 30.3 BD player (HDMI cable from Blu-Ray disc player into HDMI 1 [BD/DVD] input on rear of TX-NR 509)
And was able to get the HDMI THRU function to successfully work on the receiver. I would like to help you further with this issue and resolve it promptly. Please reply back to the following email address: onkyoadmin@us.onkyo.com with all pertinent information and also include your forum username as well.
Thank you;

my configuration / connections are unchanged except,
since the earlier posts i have updated the software it is:
now = 1081110000000103.
connections appear the same as the lab-on-site setup.
on my configuration the HDMI Thru, does not switch back to the cable box connection when the BD-player is turned off:
a description of the issue is:
The HDMI thru function is disabled when the BD/DVD component is turned off. after being turned on. For example
when the TX-NR509 unit is in standby, and i play the component connected to the BD/DVD the video and audio signal is played thru HDMI out to the TV, everything is working fine at this point... but when i turn off the BD/DVD component, the HDMI indicator light goes off on the TX-NR509 display and the HDMI signal is not sent thru to the HDMI out to the TV. At this point the HDMI out connection is not recognized on the TV. (the cable box connection is not recognized by the HDMI connection) The only way to get the signal back thru the HDMI out is to power on the TX-NR509. Is there a setup function that needs to be configured to prevent the HDMI thru from switching off, when the BD/DVD connected component is turned off?
thanks for your continued assistance.
