TX-NR515 receiver and xbox 360 first generation
I need clarification. My Xbox 360 lowest setting it is 480P which I told 480i is required to get the video working. My first call to Onkyo support told me it will not work unless it is set to 480i. My second call to Onkyo support they told me it will work with 480p. Anyone know the real answer on this? Either way I can't get the video to work through my first generation xbox 360 via the Onkyo receiver.

Hi bcorrado,
This is the final answer on this, the source (in your case is your Xbox360) must be set to 480i for that signal to go out over the HDMI. I apologize for the miscommunication.

Re: TX-NR515 receiver and xbox 360 first generation
Hello,
I found this video link explaining how to get Xbox Classic 360 (component cable) to work with the Onkyo - however, when I followed the steps precisely I am unable to get it work. Why is there so much issue and disparity and confusion with getting the Xbox 360 to work on the Onkyo? And why is it that the component only supports 480i/p (which ever it is)...whats the purpose of component if you have to have 480 Standard definition?
This sounds like a software issue, or a hardware problem with the Onkyo - no other vendors seem to have this issue.

Re: TX-NR515 receiver and xbox 360 first generation
My Xbox only has four HDTV display settings: 480p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p. There is no option for 480i - even if there was, why in the world would I want to use standard definition and not use HDMI? So I don't know whats going on here...Support keeps saying to use 480i, but there isn't even a 480i setting. This is beyond frustrating.
If I use Component Out of the Onkyo to my TV and switch the TV Source from HDMI to Component 1, then I can see my xbox video. ARRRRRRGGGGHHHH, but I want it on HDMI video - what in the world needs to happen to get this to work?!

On your xBox video component cable, the portion of the cable that is inputted into the xBox console- there should be be a switch showing TV and HDTV. Engage the switch towards TV for 480i video output resolution; as engaging the switch to HDTV sets the console output to 480p instead of 480i. Re: TX-NR515 receiver and xbox 360 first generation
The TX-NR 1009 is a higher end model and also doesn't require this configuration step; as mentioned previously with the 2012 models TX-NR 717 and higher models. This is the functional method to have the xBox transmit its video signal via the TX-NR 515 and TX-NR 616 receivers.
