Onkyo ht-s5400 setting up cable and Xbox

I have a ht-s5400 7.1 hts. I want to hook up my Xbox and cable to the receiver. Can anyone tell me the cables needed and where to plug them in?

The first thing to do is to determine what type of outputs you have on your xBox and cable box. HDMI is the best of both audio and video then comes component(RGB) for video and optical for audio.

I have an hdmi for Xbox and my cable box has one too but it is plugged into the tv.

Then I suggest connecting both the xbox and cable box to the receiver with HDMI then out to your TV with HDMI, this will give you the best audio and video.

The HDMI out on the rear of the receiver is the one you would want to use. Also make sure that your TV is set to the correct input source. There is a general diagram in the manual on page 14 that shows how it all goes together.
