HT-R590 no sound after a couple of hours Empty HT-R590 no sound after a couple of hours

Post  Isaac131 Wed Feb 01, 2012 11:38 pm

I have the central, front left, front right, and subwoofer installed. I connect the receiver to my video card on my computer via HDMI, and I get great sound. Unfortunately, after about a few hours of normal use, the subwoofer LED turns red, and no further sound is played. I tried so many things. If I try switching the HDMI cable to a new computer, it also begins to work for a few hours, then fails.

Please help me.

Hi Isaac131,
Here are a few troubleshooting techniques for your subwoofer: http://onkyousacustomersupportblog.wordpress.com/2011/10/14/no-sound-from-the-subwoofer/ Please give these a try first and keep us posted. Thank you for contacting Onkyo via our forum.

Hi Isaac131,

Do you know if your computer has a timeout on it? Have you tried to connect any other devices to this receiver to see if any of those loose audio after a couple of hours?

A timeout? I think not. I have used two cheap stereo speakers on it for months, and they worked just fine. I was contemplating whether or not I should try connecting the receiver to my sound card via optic in to see if that would change anything. I'm not sure how optic in works, though.

Hi Isaac131,

You could try the optical cable. I know this receiver does not have any type of timeouts on it. Have you tried a factory reset of the unit? To do the reset you need to turn the receiver on, then on the front panel of the receiver press and hold the "VCR/DVR" button while doing that press the "STANDBY/ON" button. You will see the word "Clear" in the display screen and the receiver will go into standby mode. PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR AUDIO & VIDEO ASSIGNMENTS ON THE RECEIVER PLUS YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR SPEAKER CONFIGURATIONS, SPEAKER DISTANCE AND ALL LEVEL CALIBRATION SETTINGS. YOU WILL ALSO LOSE ANY PROGRAMMED RADIO STATIONS IN MEMORY. Once the receiver goes into standby mode turn it back on and go thru the setup menu for all custom settings.

I have switched over to using digital in, and for the past few days, the speakers have been working wondrously! No problems as of now!
