NET Input OSD Menu blank and Receiver display stuck on iPOD(STD) TX-NR609

I have a TX-NR609 which I recently had to reset due to a similar result. In this case I had my iphone connected to the receiver and it was playing just fine. All of the sudden it stopped playing. Now whenever I click on the NET input the receiver display reads:

iPOD(STD)
Push "mode" to swithch to Extended Mode.

The typical menu of NET logos no longer displays. It appears stuck thinking that the ipod is still connected?

Any ideas on how to fix this?

On the receivers remote right about the number "3" button you have another button labeled THX but it is also the "mode" button; please press this button to change to "extended mode".
