TX-NR515 Intermittent Sound from CBL/SAT Source
I've just spent a couple of hours a day for the past few days trying to get everything working on my new 515. I am NOT an audiophile but wanted to upgrade a 1998 Yamaha receiver so I could connect an Apple TV, A Samsung Blu-Ray player, and my cable TV, via HDMI. Short version of my story is that I wound up with all sources being selectable and working - EXCEPT cable TV input from Comcast DCT 3412 Box. The audio was interrupted about every 30 seconds to 1 minute with a 2-5 second SILENCE. I tried swapping HDMI CABLES; reloading firmware, Resetting the receiver; checking all my speaker wiring etc, re-updating all my setup choices etc etc. I finally contacted Onkyo support and found a wonderfully helpful tech (La-----ce) who had me do several tests and swap outs to no avail. He concluded that the receiver was defective and advised me to return to seller or take to authorized service center for repair. (He even offered me a way to contact him directly if I needed further help!!) I decided to return to the seller and get a refund.... My purpose in writing is to share this problem But I at least wanted to publicly thank Onkyo for excellent telephone support. However the whole experience has spooked me, especially after reading all the other problems people are having as recorded in these forums. Further, I should have known better I suppose, but I was shocked to find the Zone 2 function only works for Analog signals.... My primary purpose for upgrading was to use HDMI to connect and then distribute multiple sources of audio. So, sorry Onkyo, but I'm going elsewhere.

We are sorry that you were not able to fully enjoy your TX-NR 515 recently; I have advised the Product Support representative of this posting and also advised him of the issue and to have customers refer to Comcast; as this issue doesn't only affect our AV receivers. I also informed his supervisors of this posting and the resolution for future customers as well.

Intermittent sound issue - Clarification
Are you saying the problem is "Comcast's" alone, AND that it affects multiple brands of receivers? I think that is your intent. If so, please advise - is the problem 100% Comcast's? Is it a "handshake" issue jointly shared by Onkyo and Comcast 50/50? Other?? Frankly, during my troubleshooting efforts it occurred to me to solicit assistance from Comcast, but, first I called Onkyo customer support and when I was informed it was likely Onkyo issue, I didn't pursue this further.

I was able upon my research to determine that this issue also affected those using other AV devices (receivers/ TVs, etc.). You will need to research further; as we were trying to locate a resolution from their Product Support department and Forum as well.

Thank you for your prompt response. I assume you (and Comcast?) will post further information as it becomes available? It's a shame because I did like your product! Best wishes.
