Need information regarding zone 2 on a TX-NR609
I am planning on purchasing a TX-NR609 if it fits my needs.
I have and HDTV and two sources: an HD DVR and a PS3. With a 5 speaker arrangement in my living room and two speakers on my deck which I will connect to the zone 2 speaker terminals.
I can either connect the PS3 and DVR directly to the TV via HDMI and then connect the two sources using optical audio OR
connect the two sources via HDMI and then connect the HDTV to the 609 via HDMI.
I need to be able to play the audio from the DVR to both the living room (5.1) and the deck (stereo) at the same time and be able to adjust the volume in each zone independently.
Will this work?

Re: Need information regarding zone 2 on a TX-NR609
Hi Alan,
You can find all the information you are looking for in the TX-NR609 manual on pages 61 and 62. To download a free manual please view our blog post on the subject: http://onkyousacustomersupportblog.wordpress.com/2011/09/13/owner%e2%80%99s-manuals/
Please note that zone 2 is only an analog connection. We hope you found this information useful. Thank you!

So, there is no way to play audio in zone 2 if I only have HDMI or optical connections?
If this is true then I will have to look elsewhere for a receiver

On further thought - what if I connect the DVR using HDMI and analog audio to the CBL./SAT inputs. If both zone 1 and zone 2 select CBL/SAT will zone 1 play 5.1 via the HDMI and zone 2 play stereo via the analog inputs?
Failing that could I connect the DVR analog output to BD/DVD, set zone 1 to CBL/SAT for 5.1 audio and zone 2 to BD/DVD for stereo audio?

As long as zone 2 is connected via an analog connection you will be fine. Thank you!
