HT-R570 passing audio to tv instead of surround speakers
Installed the S5200 home theater system (that we bought 3 years ago) for the 1st time yesterday. The HT-R570 receiver passes the sound from the DVD player through to the tv (sound will come only through the tv speakers, not the surround sound speakers). The CD player and radio play through the surround speakers. We tried going back to factory settings after running the room correction and that made no difference. We've checked all of the connections to make sure nothing is loose and tried working with the audio settings on the dvd player. Any suggestions?

Hi ellensjackson,
In order to assist you further I would need to know how you have this receiver connected?

connection
It is connected with an HDMI cable from the DVD player to the receiver, then another HDMI cable from the receiver to the tv.

Hi ellensjackson,
You are aware that this unit is only an HDMI pass-thru unit meaning you will need a separate audio connection from whatever source. Also this unit does not have our Audio TV out feature like we have on or new models. Did you have this unit professionally installed for you?

Confused
Not being the one installing this, because electronics is not my area, I am a little confused. If not by HDMI cable, how else would we connect the blu-ray/dvd player to the receiver?
Thank you so much.

Hi ellensjackson,
If you would like to have your DVD players’ audio come through the receiver and if it is connected via HDMI then a separate audio cable must be connected from the DVD player to the receiver and the adjustments/settings made.

Thank you for all of your help. We ended up connecting the blu-ray player to the tv directly with an HDMI cable and running the audio to the receiver through an optical cable. It works wonderfully with no discernable delay between picture and sound. Your support has been phenomenal and I cannot reccommend ONKYO highly enough!
