As soon as I did the December 20 firmware update, Zone 2 and the iPod function stopped working, getting error messages on the display instead, such as "Not App" (or something similar).

Hi Leslie,
We are going to ask you to perform a factory reset on your unit to see if it corrects the issue you are having. Please read our blog post on the subject before doing so. It will give you all the information you need to know before performing the reset as well as how to do it.

I did the factory reset even before I received your reply. This got got the iPod to work, but Zone 2 still won't work with any analog source. Zone 2 shows that is is on, but will not play anything through it or allow volume change no matter which device I set it to use. I keep getting the message "Not App." I am using 5.1 with the other 2 channels powering the Zone 2 channels, so it's set for Zone 2 being powered internally.

Did you change the settings in the speaker setup menu to zone 2?

After reset, I had forgotten to select setting for Zone 2 speakers to be powered by the receiver. That worked. Thank you. Very Happy
