Cannot connect to net with UWF-1 Empty Cannot connect to net with UWF-1

Post  neutralz34 Thu Oct 18, 2012 5:26 pm

I recently purchased an Onkyo TX-NR616 with a UWF-1 Wireless LAN adapter
When I go to setup up the adapter, my network SSID shows just fine, and recognizes it as a WEP encryption. I enter the correct key then hit "OK". The display says "Now Connecting" for a good minute or so then responds with "Connection Failed" Mad
I tried using all 4 Default ID Key setting but nothing works.
My network is an Airport broadcasted network and I have other devices(iPhone, a Mac and an iPad) that connect just fine.
Any help would be appreciated!

I would suggest you try to reserve a SKYPE callback reservation (using a Skype enabled device or webcam and microphone, iPad or Android tablet device with Skype, or cellphone with Skype) for an interactive and visual presentation of your current setup so we can further assist you at the following weblink: http://www.onkyousa.com/support_appointment_afaq.cfm?skype=y. This reservation is aavailable Monday -Friday 10am to 4pm EST; we would like to view your setup and work to resolve your issue.

Cannot connect to net with UWF-1 Empty not connecting with wireless correctly

Post  Bob James Sat Oct 20, 2012 4:15 pm

I recently purchased an Onkyo TX-NR515 with a UWF-1 Wireless LAN adapter
I am getting a 62% wireless connection but when I try to use apps it fails to connect properly and work. I did not have this issue when I first got my reciever, but now I can no longer use any of the apps. What is the solution?

Go to the review of the txnr-818 on amazon. There you will find, on the first review, an alternative WiFi adapter that works much better than the Onkyo adapter. It is what I purchased and have a 98% signal strength ( my router is downstairs in the basement). It also costs half as much as the Onkyo adapter. No SW to install, etc. just remove from the package, plug in and follow the onscreen prompts on your Onkyo.

There are other options:

TP-Link TL-WN721N 150Mbps Wireless N USB Adapter
TP-Link TL-WN722N 150Mbps High Gain Wireless USB Adapter
TP-Link TL-WN822N 300 Mbps High Gain Wireless N USB Adapter

Each has good reviews, and seem to be better than the UWF-1 in price and performance

Cannot connect to net with UWF-1 Empty Better alternative yet for Ethernet connectivity for your receiver

Post  mangusta1969 Fri Nov 30, 2012 8:26 pm

Unless you live in a very large house or an industrial complex with many electrical sub-panels, probably a better solution than Wi-Fi is to use a Powerline Ethernet transmitter/receiver setup. These devices transmit the wired ethernet protocol/signals over your existing AC power lines and have much higher throughput speeds (around 200 Mbps) and better reliability than the wireless Wi-Fi devices such as the UWF-1. Check out the Trendnet TPL-303E units on Amazon. I have been using those devices in my house and they have performed flawlessly.

The TPL-303E just plugs into an AC outlet near your internet cable modem or DSL box and then you plug the second unit into an AC outlet near your receiver; then you connect RJ45 ethernet cables from your modem to the transmitter Trendnet and from the remote receiver Trendnet unit to your Onkyo's RJ45 ethernet port. No fussing with Wi-Fi passwords or channel selections is required, either. The TPL-303E pair just worked out of the box by plugging them into two outlets in my house that are separated by about 150 feet. Last time I checked pricing, each box was less than $30 on Amazon (you will need two of them).
