Is it possible to connect a Nintendo Wii which only has component output to the HT-R980 receiver which is connected via hdmi out to a Panasonic plasma TV ?

Hi TVwatcher55,

Yes it is possible to play your Wii going in Component and going out HDMI. On page 18 of the owner’s manual it explains how this is done.
