HT-S5200 w/iphone dock not compatible with iPhone 4S?

I bought the HT-S5200 (includes the HT-R570 receiver plus 7.1 speakers) with the ipod dock a few years ago. I only used the ipod dock once a couple years ago when a friend had his (3rd gen) iphone on him and I wanted to see if it worked (it did). I just bought an iPhone 4S today and plugged it into the dock and the phone read 'Not a supported accessory'. I had my neighbor come over and his 4S had the same message, but his girlfriend's iPhone 4 (not the 4S) worked fine.

Can the 4S work with my Onkyo equipment, is a firmware update needed? Please let me know.

If you have the UP-A1L then the Iphone 4S will not work on this dock.

We do sell the UP-A1 that will work with the iPhone 4S not to be misconstrued with the one you have as that is an older model.

I just checked, my model is listed as the UP-A1. How do I tell the difference between the old UP-A1 versus a new UP-A1? If I buy I new one, I want to be sure I'm not just buying the same one I already have that doesn't work with my iphone 4s.

The HT-S5200 includes the UP-A1L (not to be confused with the UP-A1: which is compatible with the iPhone 4s and unlike the UP-A1L which not not supported to work with the iPhone 4s). There is NO firmware amendment to provide compatibility to the iPhone 4s using the UP-A1L. You can try out the UP-A1 at your local authorized Onkyo dealer to test out using your iPhone 4s to prove its functionality.
