CD optical audio Empty CD optical audio

Post  SMINNICK Sat Jul 21, 2012 11:49 pm

Not getting any audio from my CD player via the optical audio in. Do i need to assign this somehow? Should this be showing up under the TV/CD input?

CD optical audio Empty Re: CD optical audio

Onkyo receiver is TX-NR616 I'm trying to figure out how I can route the TV optical out to the receiver AND the CD audio optical output without changing the input each time. Can I route the input 1 and 2 to separate sources?

Also, if I access the TV's network (like Netflix) the only way i hear audio seemingly is through the optical out. Shouldn't the HDMI signal work both ways? to and from the TV?

any input would help.

Thanks

CD optical audio Empty CD Optical problem

Post  MusicLover Wed Jul 25, 2012 5:59 pm

NR616 here: Pioneer CD player (dont know the model, approx 4-5 years old).

Tried to hook up CD player Optical cable to receiver (the way I've done it on my recently updated Harmon Kardon receiver [which worked 100% fine for years]

Tried putting it into Onkyo NR616 Optical 1 port, no sound.
Tried putting it into Onkyo NR616 Optical 2 port, no sound.

It does work using RCA red/white audio cables into the Onkyo's CD RCA port.

Pathethic.... using 1950s technology to wire a year 2012 "high end" Receiver

I play very, very few CDs these days but remains angst-ful.

Read elsewhere another user's comment that it was done to prevent copying the CD as Onkyo seemingly finds the MPAA more important than their money paying customers, as evidenced by the HDMI situation.

If someone from Onkyo suggests I just return it: - I bought the unit on good faith having been a very happy Onkyo customer 10-15 years ago. When the box arrived I was not around as a dear friend became ill suddenly form her cancer and died; and I was with her for those several weeks. Thus the 30days were long over before I realized we are paying to be Beta Testers for an International company (Onkyo)

WHEN repeat WHEN it decides to work as advertised, it does sound very nice.

you should check the input in the menu and make sure it is routed to "listen' to optical 1 or optical2.

My problem is: I want to be able to route the TV out to "2" and the CD inout into optical 1. Not sure it is possible.
