Onkyo TX-NR515 component upscale
Hi,
I've just bought this receiver and connecting the wii with a component cable doesn't display any video, just sound.
I've connected it to the CBL/SAT and set the in HDMI Input for it to "---" and the Component Video Input to "In1".
I've tried also changing the resolution to direct/through and all the possible combinations in the monitor out and picture adjustment menus.
connecting the wii with the same component cable to the tv works without problem, i've also tried changing in the wii settings the output resolution from 480p to 576i and tried again all previous combinations on the receiver but again... just audio, no video signal.
How should i set it?

Re: Onkyo TX-NR515 component upscale
I'm having the same issue with my new TX-NR515.
Connecting an SA-8300HD cable box via Component video to the TX-NR515 and outputting the video via HDMI to a Sharp TV.
Audio is via Digital Coax.
I've made the same settings adjustments:
HDMI 2 -> -----
Component Video -> IN1
I can hear the audio fine, but the video is just a blue screen.
I've tried connecting the Component video cable directly to the TV from the cable box and the picture works fine.
Are we missing something?

Re: Onkyo TX-NR515 component upscale
glad that i'm not the only one... i was starting to think that maybe i had a broken component input somehow...
i've tried configuring the component on another input too (bd/dvd) but same issue... no video signal, just audio
my tv is a panasonic viera 55'' vt30, don't know if it helps

Re: Onkyo TX-NR515 component upscale
One other thing.
If I reboot my Cable Box (SA-8300HD), the screen turns RED and I see the Cisco logo.
But then right after that, the screen turns BLUE and I cannot see the rest of the reboot process.
So it seems that the TX-NR515 is receiving a video signal, at least initially, but then something kicks in to kill it.
Maybe a resolution issue?
But if you (arioch82) tried different settings (480p, etc.) then maybe not.
Eager to hear what Onkyo suggests.
Tired of "listening" to the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Re: Onkyo TX-NR515 component upscale
Hi forum users,
Here is what you will need to do:
In order to upscale the video signal from component or analog out through HDMI
you will need to set the source devices output resolution to 480i.
Thank you.

Re: Onkyo TX-NR515 component upscale
This DID work for me.
Thanks for the quick reply.
Just curious:
The picture, naturally, is not as good at 480i as it is at 1080i.
Do any of the higher-end Onkyo receivers allow for 1080i Component-to-HDMI upscaling?
I imagine you need a heftier processor to be able to convert a higher-resolution analog image to a high-resolution digital image.

Re: Onkyo TX-NR515 component upscale
that worked for me too thanks.
I've also found out that 576i works with 1080p/24fps only

We are glad we could help and thank you for the feedback we will pass it along! Have a great weekend
Re: Onkyo TX-NR515 component upscale
This is troublesome sounding.. I’m putting a 1080i signal into the component input (its an old xbox 360 pre HDMI days)… I’m not going to drop the resolution down to 480i that’s crazy… Is this something that will be resolved or do I need to return this receiver?

Hi AKARAVAKIS,
Here is the information regarding upscaling the 515 and 616. http://onkyousacustomersupportblog.wordpress.com/2012/04/17/hdmi-upconversion-for-the-515-and-616/
Thank you for choosing Onkyo.

Re: Onkyo TX-NR515 component upscale
I am pretty sure, my 616 could do this before the firmwareupdate! My XBOX 360 was set to 1080 on component and was transmitted then over hdmi to the tv. That is really bad, looks like I have return my reciver.
Any information, if this will work again, as it is no hardware restriction...

Re: Onkyo TX-NR515 component upscale
The 2012 models TX-NR 414, TX-NR 515, and TX-NR 616 were configured to ONLY accept 480i video signals to be processed thru HDMI to show video so it can be upscaled to 1080i. The TX-NR 717 and NR 818 do not need to configured in this matter. As the newer xBox 360 is supported to function using 480p via xBox Component thru the receiver to HDMI; it is not the same for the 1st generation xBox 360.
