Too Many Remotes
I recently purchased the HT-S3400. I have connected the set top box to the reciever with an HDMI cable and our plasma is connected to the HDMI out. The television stations are controlled through the set top box universal remote as well as the volume. Now that we have the home theater system installed the volume is controlled by the Onkyo remote and the television is controlled by the set to box remote. Is there a way to allow the set top box remote to control the television volume to the Onkyo surround system?
Thanks,
-Rich

Hi Richl,
In answer to your question the only way is possible is if all the connected devices had what they call RIHD or an HDMI control function. Please check the manual of your TV and cable box to see if they have it.

The Panasonic TV notes the following:
VIERA Link “HDAVI Control”, is based on the control functions provided by HDMI and industry standard known as HDMI
CEC (Consumer Electronics Control), with unique function that we have developed and added. As such, its operation with
other manufacturers’ equipment that supports HDMI CEC cannot be guaranteed.
Please refer to the individual manuals for other manufacturers’ equipment supporting the VIERA Link function

Re: Too Many Remotes
Hi Rich,
I've got a Panasonic plasma myself with VieraLink -- if you go into the menu/settings of the Panasonic TV and scroll down to the Settings/Wrench option you'll find a submenu for VieraLink. Here you can set the Default Audio to Theatre (from TV), and then whenever you change the volume on the TV it will pass it thru to the receiver via HDMI and control the volume there (and your TV speakers will be off). At least this works with my ST30 and 609 Receiver.
Hope that helps.
Nathan

Re: Too Many Remotes
FYI,
For some reason this did not work for me (only volume control for the TV). I did however find a work around. I was able to program my set top remote (Comcast) AUX for the receiver. Little bit of time to get it correct but the set top box operates the stations and the receiver controls the volume. One button press gives me all off (TV, Set Top Box, Receiver), and all on. Thanks for your input.
