Subwoofer only works when I am watching tv and movies
I have the onkyo RC-708M receiver which came with the Home theater system (I believe the 7100 series).
I moved and my only option is a 2.1 system. I can easily hear the sub when watching tv and movies, but when I use the cd input (which is just my iPod running into a 1/8" to RCA converter cable), it seems I have no sub at all. No matter how much I turn it up. It shows up fine on my on screen GUI and works firm with other sources.
Any ideas?

Hi Jeffc_7373,
Have you tried a reset on the receiver? To do the reset you need to turn the receiver on, then on the front panel of the receiver press and hold the "VCR/DVR" button while doing that press the "STANDBY/ON" button. You will see the word "Clear" in the display screen and the receiver will go into standby mode. PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR AUDIO & VIDEO ASSIGNMENTS ON THE RECEIVER PLUS YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR SPEAKER CONFIGURATIONS, SPEAKER DISTANCE AND ALL LEVEL CALIBRATION SETTINGS. YOU WILL ALSO LOSE ANY PROGRAMMED RADIO STATIONS IN MEMORY. Once the receiver goes into standby mode turn it back on and go thru the setup menu for all custom settings. If this does not resolve the issue then the unit will need to go to a service center for repair. Authorized service centers can be found on our main page under support.

Did you get this resolved? I'm having a simliar issue. In movies and cable TV my subwoofer works fine but when I switch to Net to listen to Pandora or something I get no subwoofer action.

Have tested using both vTuner, Pandora, Rhapsody and tried various genres and artists and all song titles were utilizing either a 3.1 or 5.1 audio output- sub was active. Pandora @ both 128k and 192k both utilized the subwoofer output. Which receiver are you referring to and what is the LFE signal setting under the SPEAKER CONFIG menu?

I'm using a TX-NR515. LFE is set to 120hz. I've read some about changing the speakers to 'small' correcting the issue on other receivers.

This receiver doesn't use the SMALL option for speaker configuration; it uses an actual frequency setting (40 Hz-100Hz, 120 Hz, etc.) for the speaker channels. What is the current speaker configuration settings for your FRONT speakers?
