TX-NR809 Streaming Audio Files via DLNA recognizes .mp3 files but not .m4a files (AAC)
I installed TVersity as a DLNA server to stream my music files on my PC to my receiver. After the installation, the folder and all music files appeared when connecting to "NET".
The only files that will play are the .mp3s, which is a very small percentage of my files. I receive the error "Cannot Play" when trying to stream the .m4a files.
BTW, my PC is running Windows Vista.
Any thoughts from the board would be appreciated.

I see that Onkyo receivers are not explicitly listed under their supported devices but thought I'd give it a try. It appears that this software runs on many "unsupported" devices.
Any thoughts on other DLNA server client software that I can use? Once again, I am running Windows Vista on my PC if this information is necessary.

I cannot get WMP 11 to see or read my m4a (aac) encoded music files. WMP 11 will only play mp3s.

This is not the fault of the Onkyo receiver but with TVersity, I installed it and had the same problem. I dumped it for Mezzmo ($29.95, 15 day full function trial) http://www.conceiva.com/products/mezzmo/default.asp This DLNA client will play Audio formats I have never heard of. Here is a link to the audio formats Mezzmo will play http://www.conceiva.com/products/mezzmo/formatsupport.asp#AudioRead Mezzmo works extremely well it also does videos , and other file types. This is a functionality I am not interested in. When I get my new iPad I will add an Apple TV box which will do 1080P and will add Airplay to Onkyo receivers. Oh and WMP11 sucks
I am not done looking at DLNA clients.
I am now trying Asset UPnP. ($26.00, 30 day trial, full lifetime updates) Asset is from Illustrate a software outfit who's products I have used for well over a decade. Asset is an audio only DLNA client which is all I am interested in. Asset has the cool feature of on the fly conversions of FLAC, Ape, Frog, and other formats to what can play on the devise you are streaming to. Asset is presently setting it's self up and is scanning the several terabytes of music files I have. go here: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/asset-upnp-dlna.htm I am looking at the features this DLNA client has and like all of the other Illustrate products I have installed Asset looks like a winner. It also has a version for the Mac'. Once I get it up and running I will report about it here.
Incidentally I have the GoodPlayer app loaded on my iPod Touch 4G it is fantastic. It spotted the Onkyo instantly has a nice interface and is fast.

Twonky works wonders. I got everything streaming through it, and it specifically lists Onkyo receivers as being supported.
Better yet it's free!!
I really appreciate you looking into this.
Thanks.
(WMP does suck!)

UPDATE: Twonky worked wonders after the initial install. Now I am getting errors that it cannot cannot to server.
Time to trouble shoot, reinstall, or try something else. I'll find something that works eventually.

My philosophy on this sort of thing is you get what you pay for. For the most part freeware just doesn't work as well as the stuff you pay for. I have been very, very pleased with Asset so far.
