Receiver OFf with video functionality still on

As I was messing with the settings on a HT-R390 receiver before I got all speakers working I was able to power the receiver off AND the hdmi input /out were still working. Would be an awesome feature to have when I want to watch tv without having the 5.1 sound on. How can this be done

This can be done on this receiver. Simply go into setup => HDMI setup => then simply set the HDMI Ctrl (RIHD) to "on" and that will set everything underneath to auto except the Lip-Sync. This should work.
