Workaround For No Tape Monitor Loop on TX-NR717

I recently purchased a TX-NR717 which does not have a tape monitor loop. I would like to add a graphic audio equalizer. Is there a workaround that would allow me to connect an equalizer?

I think I figured out a workaround solution to use a graphic equalizer with the TX-NR717. The solution is to use Zone 2 or Zone 3 out to drive the speakers. Connect Pre-out Main to graphic equalizer. Connect output of graphic equalizer to one of the analog audio line inputs. Use remote to select line source for Zone 2. I have not implemented this but based upon the description of Zone play in the users manual it should work. One drawback is that extra buttons need to be pressed on the Onkyo remote to play the equalizer source in Zone 2 or 3. If I decide to add an equalizer I would program macros for zone2/3 control into my smart remote.
