RC-440M Doesn't Control TX-DS696 Receiver
My RC-440M doesn't want to control my TX-DS696 receiver. It does not power on the receiver, it does not switch the sources or control the volume. Nothing on the receiver. However, a long time ago the cable guy programed the RC to power on and change the volume for my TELEVISION. The remote DOES still control the TV.
I tried seeing if the remote would control my DVD player but it is a Philips and there is no 3-number code for Philips DVD players in the manual for my receiver. The manual I found online is exactly the same as my printed manual. It too does not have the code for a Philips DVD player so I have no way to test to see if the remote is faulty or if it's the receiver.
I tried following the instructions for erasing the programming for the TV mode button but nothing changed - the TV still comes on if I press TV and then the Standby button on the remote. I even tried setting the TV mode button to a different manufacturer in hopes that I could get the remote to do SOMETHING that suggests it was still in operating order but the TV mode button still affects the power and volume of the TV.
I tried leaving out the batteries in the remote overnight thinking it would kill the programming but that didn't work. I turned off and unplugged the receiver overnight but that too has had no effect.
What would be the next step in solving this? Sending in just the remote for repair or both the remote and the receiver? Do I try buying a new Onkyo remote as a test or is my TX-DS696 too old for newer remotes?
Thank you in advance,
K
