Cant do 12/20/2011 Firmware update via usb for NR-609
I have tried three different flashdrives and I get the same error message when I try to do the firmware update. The error message is DL error 0-14 ( not found) is what scrolls when I try the update. Onyko support on the phone was no help. I did a factory reset which did not help. They told me the problem is the reciever. Can anyone help me with this issue. AVR is TX-NR609. I downloaded the compressed files then unzipped them on the drive. I tried the firmware update for the 609 dated 12/20/2011 on the onkyousa.com website. I do not have the ability to do a hardwire ethernet connection. Thanks.

Hi Dave,
Do you see what the file names are when you extract them and if so can you tell me exactly what the file names are? This information is needed for further investigation of your issue.

current firmware version
I did do an update on this AVR when I first got it. The version of firmware that is on it now is- 1081-1000-0010-6104. I dont even know how current that version is or whether or not it reverted to the factory default version when I did the factory reset.

Hi Dave,
Thank you, those are the files I was looking for and the firmware version you have is the latest one as I have checked our receiver and they match.
Are you having any other issues besides not being able to update the firmware using the flash drive?

ok that is weird
I bought this in August 2011. How is it that I have the most current firmware when I bought the AVR 4 months before the latest version of the firmware came out? TX-NR609. I am speaking of the 12/20/2011 update. I am not hardwired to an ethernet connection either and no I am not having any other problems.

Hi Dave,
All I can tell you is you have the latest firmware on your unit as for how it came to be on your unit 4 months before the latest firmware came out I do not know.

Are you incorrect or am I??
What firmware version is 1121-1300-0010-6104 if I indeed have the latest firmware version as stated in my previous reply? Is this GENUINE ONKYO support? My apologies if version 1081-1000-0010-6104 is indeed the latest firmware version. If not then I need continued support because I still have the same problem.

On Onkyo's web site FW 0008 is the latest for his 609, so how could he have "the latest FW" if he can't install it?

Hi david0406,
I assure you this is OnkyoUSA support and no other. In answer to your question on the FW it is the one from 12/20/2011 as you’ve already stated. Have you tried to put a couple of MP3 files on those flash drives to see if the unit will recognize and play those files just as a test? If it does not try a reset of the unit. To do the reset you need to turn the receiver on, then on the front panel of the receiver press and hold the "VCR/DVR" button while doing that press the "STANDBY/ON" button. You will see the word "Clear" in the display screen and the receiver will go into standby mode. PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR AUDIO & VIDEO ASSIGNMENTS ON THE RECEIVER PLUS YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR SPEAKER CONFIGURATIONS, SPEAKER DISTANCE AND ALL LEVEL CALIBRATION SETTINGS. YOU WILL ALSO LOSE ANY PROGRAMMED RADIO STATIONS IN MEMORY. Once the receiver goes into standby mode turn it back on and go thru the setup menu for all custom settings. THIS WILL NOT HAVE ANY EFFECT ON THE FW Version you have. Try the MP3 file again and see if they play. If they do not play or are not recognized then the unit will either need service or returned to the dealer for an exchange.

Re: Cant do 12/20/2011 Firmware update via usb for NR-609
Ok. That is what phone support told me to do. It did not work. I purchased a brand new flash drive just for this purpose. It still did not work. Are these Onkyo units particular about the brand of flash drive they will accept in the usb port for download?

Hi david0406,
As long as your USB device/flash drive conforms to the requirements in the manual (On page 76) you should have no issues unless in the rare instance of the actual receiver being defective.

Why am I getting the error code???
Is there an advanced support specialist or engineer that can tell me WHY I am getting the error code and what it means?? It states on the display of the unit when I try to upload firmware to unit ERROR 0-14. Then it scrolls ERROR ( not found). WHY AM I GETTING THIS ERROR??? Am i doing something wrong in the upload process?? Is my unit defective?? Will it not read my usb??? There must be some protocol that can answer this question. Surely engineers can tell me why I am getting this error message. After all they built it.

Re: Cant do 12/20/2011 Firmware update via usb for NR-609
Hey David, just to make sure, are you following this procedure exactly?
http://filedepot.onkyousa.com/Files/own_manuals/Firmware_Update_for_the_TX609_HT360_12_20_11.pdf?CFID=1920210&CFTOKEN=82428607&jsessionid=f030d9822f2d72ed49cc342b6c7a785ba342
I found this under the error code:
*-14:
An update file is not found in the root folder
of the USB storage device, or an update file
is for other model. Retry download following
instructions at the support website. If the
error persists, please contact Onkyo Support
(indicated at the end of this page) and
provide the error code.
Did you make sure to extract the 3 files from the Zip, and then copy them to the USB. You can't just copy the Zip.

Re: Cant do 12/20/2011 Firmware update via usb for NR-609
Hi forums users,
The reason you are getting the 0-14 error is because your media (USB) is not being recognized by the receiver or as was stated by D. Bone.
Have you've done what was previously relayed in this forum yet as all the information is there for what you will need to do if it does not work.
