I can not get my unit to play multi-channel tracks of either format. I know the analog out are married to BD/DVD
All I can get is matrixed output. The receiver defaults to All channel stereo. Any Solutions. I also douibled checked to make sure my Denon DVD-2200 is set ot multi-channel.
Thanks Matt

ALL CHANNEL STEREO. I CAN NOT FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET THE ANALOG OUTS JUST TO OUTPUT W/O ANY ADDITIONAL PROCESSING. ON MY PIONEER ELITE THERE WAS AN INPUT FOR THE ANALOG OUTPUTS. ONKYO FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON MARRIED IT TO THE BD/DVD INPUT
THANKSM ATT

Matt

I don't have a NR808 but on my NR809 you can switch the BD/DVD audio source to Multichannel in Setup line 4 (Source Select), then select line 6 (Audio Selector) and finally select Multich, not Analog. That uses the rear panel BD/DVD analog input jacks. So you must put the analog 5.1/7.1 inputs there. (It would have been nice had Onyko allowed the use of more than one input chain).

However, I suspect the TX-NR808 may have a SACD DSD decode capability as my old TX-NR708 has. So, if you have a BD player that can pass through the DSD bitstream, there is no need to use the analog outputs, which are left over from the days when Sony would not allow the SACD DSD digital signal out of the DVD player! Now days most BD players can pass all the multichannel digital audio signals over the HDCP protected HDMI output. Even the current Sony low-end BD players will do that. I use an Oppo BD-93 player for both BD/DVD's and SACD's. My TX-NR809 does a great job of handling the SACD sound. Especially when I use the Audssey DSX mode to convert the SACD 5.1 to 7.1. That adds my front left and right "high" speakers to the mix.

Matt - If you are in the USA and can scratch together $80, the Sony BDP-S380 will do everything you need over the HDMI interface. See this SACD page for info on what players will handle SACD DSD: http://www.ps3sacd.com/sacd_bd_players.html. Yes the Oppo has all the bells and whistles and far more than most people really need, but there is lots of low price BD stuff out there. And adding DSD is no sweat using the available (and cheap) digital processor chips. It is actully easier than decoding 5.1 audio and adding the six RCA jacks on the rear panel. - Bill

Bill,
Thanks for the heads up. But my issue is with DVD-AUDIO. Sony never made a player that can support that format since they ran with Sacd.
Thanks Matt

Matt - Sorry for not making it clear that DVD-Audio is handled as well as SACD by the Sony BDP-380 and do nearly all currently produced BD/DVD players that have HDMI 1.3 and above interfaces. That inlcudes digital audio along with digital video. If your current DVD player does not have HDMI outputs or if it only has HDMI 1.0, it will not pass Dolby Digital 5.1 to your TX-NR808. And Sony will not allow SACD DSD to be sent over unprotected optical nor coaxial 5.1 connections. But, those should pass DVD audio if the disc has Dolby Digital or DTS encoded tracks. If your DVD audio discs only have LPCM tracks they will play back on most currently produced BD players, as LPCM 5.1 can be sent over the HDMI 1.3+ interface and your NR808, I believe, will decode LPCM 5.1 like my NR708 does.
