I am looking at possibly purchasing the TX-NR609.

How flexible is it watch one video source and listen to another?

Specifically I would like to be able to watch HDMI 1 (PS3) and listen to an iPOD(any type of connection[USB or RCA]). Another specific scenario is I would like to watch HDMI 3 (cable) and listen to the Tuner.

Yes that is possible! You can connect the ipod to the TV/CD RCA inputs and play ps3 and listen to the ipod. Thanks for contacting Product Support over our forum. Have any other questions feel free to ask!
