"Clicking" from receiver when on

One last question.
Randomly, when my receiver is on, it will make a "click" noise (similar to the noise when the unit is turned on).
It seems to be random and maybe every 20-30 minutes (or more frequently). Is this normal? And is there a reason for it? (maybe a mode switching that I'm not aware of, etc)

The click is the relay switching because there is a signal change with the source. Are you getting the same amount of clicking when watching other devices connected to the receiver?

Happens mostly when watching cable (Im assuming because the source is changing between commercials) but it also happens when listening to music and watching movies playing from a macbook hooked up to the receiver.

Still looking for an explanation.
It will randomly click while watching a movie through my laptop hooked up via hdmi, cable (through hdmi) etc. Happens randomly, not when a sound or commercial changes or anything....just intermittently.

Dunno about yours but my receiver clicks sometimes when the rear speakers haven't been used for a while, when i play something with surround sound again, the receiver clicks again and they come on. The receiver will also click to seemingly raise the power output to all of the speakers when something loud comes over the speakers such as an explosion in a movie or an action scene.

This sounds like a poor signal level for surround sound signal. Could be due to low signal level from cable company or lousy HDMI cables.

I'm thinking it's the cable company because the sound also cuts out for a second every once in a while.
I have used at least 4 different hdmi cables ranging in all quality so I know it's not the hdmi cables.
I've plugged the cable box into different hdmi slots and it does the same thing in all...leading me to believe it is most likely the cable signal...

Just as a test can you bypass the receiver. Let's connect the cable box direct to the TV and test a couple of movies and or TV shows and see if you get the same issue.

I had the cable box, and my laptop hooked up to the tv for months before this issue (same cables, same box, etc) and never had the issue, so I know it's the receiver.

I had clicking too but found out it was my tv, it went away when I turned the volume off on the tv
