Continuous network traffic generated by NR-414 Empty Continuous network traffic generated by NR-414

The unit seems to generate continuous internet traffic even when the input is set to something else than NET like TV/CD.
I have monitored the connections with wireshark and found that the unit continuously pulls streaming from Slacker which seems to provide it's content via llnw.com.
As soon as I have selected another connection method under NET - eg. Home Media, the connection and streaming from Slacker has stopped.

This is very annoying as the unit generates network traffic and bandwidth consumption even when the specific connection is not used or when the unit is in standby mode. My internet traffic download has spiked because of that.
Is there a setting to for the unit shutting off the connections when in standby or when the source is different than NET?

Secondly - the remote app on IOS seems to be incapable of retrieving the last radio stations played in Slacker after a while. The remedy seems to be powering cycling the unit. Just putting it into standby mode won't do it.
After power cycle the last played stations show up in the remote.

Are there any fixes for that?

I am using the latest firmware.

In regards to the first issue; when enabling NETWORK STANDBY (formelry known as NETWORK CONTROL) on the receiver under the HOME SETUP menu> SETUP> NETWORK SETUP> NETWORK STANDBY: this enables and provides a constant network connection to the receiver while it's active (and using another input instead of NET). It will also maintain network connection while the receiver is on STANDBY status. So if you prefer to disable this setting; you can go into the HOME SETUP menu of the receiver by pressing the RECEIVER and then HOME buttons on the remote controller. Scroll to the SETUP option (Red toolbox) and press the ENTER button to access the menu. Now scroll down to NETWORK SETUP and press ENTER again. Now scroll NETWORK STANDBY and toggle to have this feature set to OFF. When done; press the HOME button to fully exit the SETUP menus.

Regarding the second issue/ inquiry: I will research this further and update you on the findings. What receiver do you currently own so we can match comparisons? If you are still experiencing the same issue , Please contact our Product Support Dept for further assistance with this specific issue via our phone number and hours of operation (Monday- Sunday 24 hours a day: (800) 229-1687; option #3 PRODUCT SUPPORT). We would like to speak with you and work to troubleshoot and resolve your issue as prompt as possible.

Thank You;

Thanks for the quick reply.

While technically speaking Network Standby =off will kill the streaming it will also kill the network interface completely which is not ok.
If that Network Standby is disabled then I can no longer wake up the unit via network -e.g. using my Iphone.
I expect to be able to control the unit via a remote app and wake the unit up or put it in standby as needed. If the source is switched from NET to anything else I expect the network interface to be UP when Network Standby =ON and the streaming should stop. What is the purpose of consuming network bandwidth when NET is no longer the active source?

As previously stated; when disabling NETWORK STANDBY- when you place the receiver on (POWER) STANDBY status- it also disables the NETWORK connection. As the receiver is not using any power consumption or functionality to keep a constant connection stream UNLESS you enable the NETWORK STANDBY option. Doing so will maintain and utilize a minial power comsumption while the receiver itself is on (POWER) STANDBY. And this basic is only available for this receiver- as you either want a more instaneous (Network) control of the receiver instead of waiting for the receiver to initialize with your LAN upon EVERY power cycle. So there is basically a choice that is available on all Onkyo receivers- as some customer do NOT want the receiver to still consume power while on (power) STANDBY.

Cordially;
