TX-NR616 No App, No Network, Now Intializing, Need final answer. Empty TX-NR616 No App, No Network, Now Intializing, Need final answer.

I'll start with saying I have read many similar threads and I just want a real clear answer of what to do here, in my specific situation.

I ordered 2 TX-NR609s from Amazon about 4 months back. I bought these 100% for their integration with Spotify. I could find very similar features from other vendors but bought these for spotify.

The first few days.. I was able to use spotify. I was able use the android app to control the receiver. Soon this went away and I was unable to get the recievers to show up on the android app. They would also get to the point of maybe selecting spotify under the "NET" options, but freeze up from there.

I am a network guy. I work for a network equipment manufacturer.. the big one. I have great equipment. I also have 6 Roku devices (network media players) and a WD TV Live (talks to spotify).. all of this works FLAWLESSLY on my network.. My network has close to 75 unique devices.

That being said.. I read forums, tried the suggestions.. etc. Firmware updates.. etc. Tried to return them and was past 30 days.

Finally.. after waiting over a week to get onkyo support to follow up, I called amazon and threw a fit.. They allowed me to return them. Thank God.

Ok, so I figured the NR616 would probably have this fixed.. HOW HARD IS IT TO MAKE YOUR DEVICE TALK TO THE INTERNET!!!!!! So I ordered up 2 of them.. Nope.. same issue.

I get to the selection screen where i have choices for different network radio/apps.. and freeeeze..
Does not connect to the android remote
I am able to get to the receivers via HTTP. I have tried static and non-static settings.

What does Onkyo say? Send it (on my dime) to an authorized service center? Have you read people's posts about how these come back banged up 2 WEEKS LATER???! And still don't work?

I'm not doing that. I can return these to Amazon again.. as I'm in the 30 days. That will be 4 receivers returned and you can believe me I will review them on as many sites as I have the energy from the anger I feel.

SO.. I'm asking the community.. Have you seen an actual working way to fix this? I have heard about random router settings.. Is there some direction you can give me as a last ditch effort? I do not want to hear that i have to buy some piece of shit router to make my Onkyo work... honestly..I have all sorts of great networking media devices already working wonderfully. Onkyo should be able to do the same.

I know I sound like a total a-hole, but I'm exhausted from trying to make this work.

Thanks in advance...

Uptoolate78,

I use the IOGEAR GWU627 universal wifi adapter. I plugged the Ethernet cable into the back of the receiver and the USB power to the back of the receiver in the USB port. I have not had ant issues with the net portion of the receiver.

TX-NR616 No App, No Network, Now Intializing, Need final answer. Empty You've got no response from Onkyo USA --

Post  JNagarya Tue Jul 24, 2012 2:52 pm

And that is how they deal with defective product complaints:

They don't.

You won't get anything from Onkyo USA but run-arounds in various forms, with the obvious intent that you go away.

Persist and ythey make your complaints private so other customers won;t see them. Persist and they will delete entire complaont threads in order to prevent other customers seeing what is going on.

Onkyo Corporate seems intent on destroying Onkyo as a viable product, and they are succeeding in so doing.

well, being that to enable networked remote on/off on onkyo receivers you have to enable a network mode that uses ~50W (described in the manual as a "slight increase" over standby) you have your answer.
WOL? magic packet? nope, let's use more juice than a recent computer, the receiver will just run hotter

sound is good, but every functionnality other than that is just broken :
- video chip usually crippled or completely bug ridden (xx9 series with 24p stutter, pb with black levels => those took about 8 months to be fixed )
- onkyo (and integra) app on android AND ios (v1.20 now) laggy and unusable except for zone/source(non net based)/volume.
- netcode is garbage (i think you know that by now)
- net services hanging the device (spotify on a 1009 sometimes just hangs, need to reboot the receiver)

basically, the fix is to not rely on those features, expect them not to work as advertised. (there's a new version of the android/ios remote soon but i wouldn't expect much of it)

another fix would be to switch brands.

TX-NR616 No App, No Network, Now Intializing, Need final answer. Empty Network

Post  MusicLover Wed Jul 25, 2012 5:49 pm

About one of the few things that DOES work 100% on my NR616 is the hard wired connection to my consumer grade router. The only thing I did was in router settings gave the NR616 a static LAN IP address. Never tried using the NR616 wireless.

But if a CSCO Cisco network tech is having issues Onkyo, I would suspect SOMETHING is going on.

to the OP: (humor) maybe Onkyo Ethernet work is only designed to work with consumer grade routers and not the Cisco commercial grade router you are using.
