TX-NR609 - Clicking Noise Coming from Receiver
Hello,
Over the past few months my TX-NR609 has been making a clicking noise.
This noise is similar to when I cycle through listening modes.
While I know that the clicking is normal when audio changes (ie. from Dolby 5.1 to Dolby2.0) however, the clicking is occurring when the audio stream is constant. Example: Watching a movie via DVD.
The noise is only coming from the receiver itself. There is no audible distortion coming from my speakers.
It occurs from all audio sources that I use (Game, TV, DVD, NET).
The clicks are random and occur several times a day.
I have hooked the receiver up to different outlets in the house (on different fuses).
It is not isolated to any specific Source..At first I thought it was just when using my cable box and I figured it was a drop in audio signal from the cable company, but then I noticed it occurring on all sources.
Is this something I should be concerned about?
Does anyone else get this (outside of the expected clicking when changing audio sources/modes)?
Let me know. I can also provide more specific details for any questions that are asked.
Thank You.

Re: TX-NR609 - Clicking Noise Coming from Receiver
Have you had any success figuring this out? Did Onkyo help you at all? I was finally able to perform my first Firmware Update and now I have the same issue. Randomly while watching a movie I hear the clicking noise, exact same noise as if changing listening modes. I can see this getting annoying after some time. Let me know if you had any luck with it, if not i'll call customer service in a couple days and hopefully get through to them. I'll let you know what I find out.

Please indicate the frequency of the reported clicking sounds you are hearing from the receiver; as I will bring this to the attention of the appropriate representatives for further researching.

Hello,
The clicks are random, and are generally far apart from each other, it on an average it clicks about once every hour. Sometime every 2 hours. I will try and keep an accurate log for future reference.

After review from the on-site Engineer; he has expressed this is normal operation of the receiver when it is changing audio output formats. I submitted this information to his attention and upon his review- he stated this was no issue requiring any futher evaluation or possible servicing. If you are still experiencing the same issue(s), Please contact our Product Support Dept for further assistance with this specific issue via our phone number and hours of operation (Monday- Sunday 24 hours a day: (800) 229-1687; option #3 PRODUCT SUPPORT).

What about when the audio output does not change? when it is a constant stream from a dvd or movie and the clicking happens randomly? The original poster explained that in his/her first post and the same thing has occurred with my unit a couple times since I updated to the latest firmware on monday.

This is actually a normal operation of the unit, acting as a PROTECT feature in regulating and preventing internal damage. This information is proprietary; but have been advised by the Engineer this is a normal operating function exhibited by many of our late models and doesn't warranty any servicing.

Re: TX-NR609 - Clicking Noise Coming from Receiver
Agreed. The clicking occurs even when not changing audio modes.
I noticed that the clicking became obviously noticeable in March 2012 when I updated the firmware that became available during that time. I was hoping the July firmware would have resolved this but it did not. I was holding off on thinking it was firmware related, but now that someone else noticed this after they updated, then it is something to bring to the board.
Thanks for taking your time with this.
edit.... I posted this after the moderator last comment. It appears this is normal.
Thank you for clearing that up.
