Change the Order in which Devices are Turned On
For those using a Harmony One remote, this can be fixed.
First, go to the Devices tab of your configuration software and select the Troubleshoot button on your TV device. Go through the prompts and look for the SCART section. Make sure that SCART is turned OFF for your TV.
Next, go to the Activities tab and click the "Settings" button on each. Select the option to change the order in which devices are turned on and make sure that the Onkyo receiver is the FIRST device that will be turned on for EACH activity in your list.
Update your devise and lift your hands to the heavens in gratitude.
THOSE OF YOU USING A REMOTE WHICH DOES NOT ALLOW THE CONFIGURATION OF THE ORDER IN WHICH DEVICES ARE TURNED ON ARE LIKELY OUT OF LUCK!! That is, unless Onkyo can firmware update their way outta this one.
See the Logitech forums for more information.

Re: TX-NR515/616 remote control not turning your receiver "on" topic
For those who can't do the "trick", this is another solution that I can give :
activate the network stand-by (a light on the right side is ON when the ampli is in stand by mode).
By doing this, the ampli doesn't keep stuck no matter in which order you switch on the TV and the ampli.

Nota : I'm the guy who gave the "hint" on the logitech forum, and I can say that I had to search a lot of hours to find an alternative to the Onkyo bug ...

Re: TX-NR515/616 remote control not turning your receiver "on" topic
Hi I posted a thread, but I have the 818 and my amp does not turn on with the remote.
If I turn it on and off every 3 seconds it works, but if I leave it for long periods of time, eg, over an hour of non use and overnight, I need to turn it on by the main unit.
Very annoying, you spend 1000.00 on a amp and you cant even use the remote.
This is my first onkyo, and there are so many software issues on the 616 and 818 ect. but this seems nothing new to onkyo, even last years models have had major issues, and I think even a recall. Never had any issues with my previous pioneers, but thought, WOW what spec for 1000.00 and sold my pioneer, kinda regretting it now.
Would be nice for a firmware update to sort this out for all models, I have a bad back and cant keep getting up all the time to turn on the amp, thats why I have a remote.

Re: TX-NR515/616 remote control not turning your receiver "on" topic
Switch on your tv and your amplificator.
You need to access to the OSD (on screen display) configuration of your amplificator on the TV :
1) press "home" button on your ampli remote and it should make the OSD appear on the TV
=> if it doesn't, it may be because your TV is not on the good channel (the one dedicated for the ampli) or that the ampli is not in a good mode (I don't know why but sometimes, it does not appear on the TV if I am in "game" mode or "cbl" mode ; it works in "pc" mode for instance)
2) Choose the button on the right called "configuration"
3) Choose the 7th item in the list called "... configuration"
4) Then chosse the 7.4th item called "network"
5) Then choose "network stand by" in the bottom of the list and make it activated
For me it works, with this option I don't have any more problems to switch it on or off
I hope it will work for you

Re: TX-NR515/616 remote control not turning your receiver "on" topic
Sorted thanks, Seems to be working again.
Terrible I cant even use the remote on a £1000.00 amp, and all onkyo have done us update some firmware about memory problems and bluetooth.
There is an issue with the HDMI on the 616, and people that have had it since new, have been promised a firmware update, but again, almost 2 months later and nothing.
This is not a good first impression from this first time Onkyo Buyer.

Re: TX-NR515/616 remote control not turning your receiver "on" topic
We're going round and round. If the Network Standby is enabled then many devices will start getting dysfunctional HDMI pass-through. Canada, you may want to check this. Chances are you're trading one problem with another. Please let us know otherwise. The latest firmware intends to fix this but then some are bricking their machines with the new update.

515/616 not turning on receiver
Hi everyone I agree we are going around & around, & Onkyo is never going to get these receivers, we have tried all of the firmware upgrades with no luck.. the only thing that can help with this issue is grab the remote and change the input to one that is not being used.. the receiver will stay on but no sound.
If you have a custom remote simply change the input to one that's not being used, again the receiver will stay on just lower the light on the settings. or just try to get your money back change to another brand.

New NR515 Owner
Same remote on issue. It seems to be intermittent but I just received the unit last night. Exchanged a perfectly good 414 because I need to drive a set of patio speakers. Hoping I don't regret. Sad thing is no response from Onkyo??? Unusual from what I've seen over the years. Hope a representative can tell me to exchange (probably wouldn't cause I'll get another with same issues) or replace the unit before warranty expires. If there's a fix coming I'll wait but please tell me something.
Here is my setup.
- Model # TX-NR515
- Serial #1066DC5231605418
-Firmware version #1110-8106-0300
-Do you have the HDMI control (RIHD) on or off? Off
-Do you have Network standby on or off Off
-Do you have the auto standby on or off?
-Internet connectivity is it wired or wireless? Wireless (using asus wireless adapter)
