TX-NR609 zone 2 not outputting
I can not seem to get the zone 2 speakers to play anything. I have a CD player connected to the analog inputs. I can get the CD player to play through the main speakers in the room. The zone 2 speakers are in another room. I turn on zone 2 via the remote per the instructions and select the source as the CD player. The Z2 on the display is lit. No sound comes out of the zone 2 speakers. I used the remote to turn up the zone 2 volume but nothing happens. Mute is off.
I even tried to to switch the input to the PC (not in use) and connected the CD player to the PC inputs. Sound comes out of the main speakers but nothing out of the zone speakers.
What could the problem be?

Hi Ametrica,
I know you said that the CD player is connected via analog, but is zone 2 also connected via analog since it only works with an analog connection. Thank you for contacting Onkyo via our forum!

Re: TX-NR609 zone 2 not outputting
Thanks for answering, but to answer your question I don't know. I have my two speakers connected to the Zone 2 speaker outputs on the back of the set. The ones marked zone 2. The zone 2 line outputs meant to be connected to an external amplifier are not connected to anything. As per the diagram on the left side of page 61 in the manual.

Re: TX-NR609 zone 2 not outputting
I connected a small set of powered speakers to the Zone 2 RCA jacks used with powered speakers. I am able to get sound out of the speakers this way but not with a set of un-powered speakers connected to the connected to the zone 2 speaker terminals. Could there be something wrong with the internal zone 2 amplifier?

I tried it. The clear appeared and the receiver shut off. I turned it back on, did my speaker set up and tried the zone 2 again. It didn't work.

Hi Ametrica,
Since the reset did not work for you the next step would be to send it in for repair. You have 2 options in doing so:
1. You can call our parts and services department and have them set up the repair for you. This is also recommended to see if your unit is still under warranty. (201) 785-2600, option 4.
2. You can send it in for repair yourself, please read our blog post on locating a service center: http://onkyousacustomersupportblog.wordpress.com/2011/09/13/locating-an-authorized-service-center-or-dealer/
Thank you for contacting Onkyo via our forum, if you have any other questions feel free to ask.

The authorized service centre appears to be the same place I bought it from on 2011-11-23. Since it is brand new, I would want it to be exchanged for a new one. I'll see what they say.
Thanks
Thanks

Re: TX-NR609 zone 2 not outputting
I went to the store and a very knowledgeable sales person told me that I have to go into Speaker Set-up (item 2 on the list) and select 2.1 Powered Zone and change no to yes. That worked.
I'm letting you know this so you can inform others who might come across the same thing.
