Firmware Update for Onkyo TX-NR509

I am unable to update firmware on my receiver. I have it hardwired to the router. I do have internet, or I could not be writing this post.

When I select Firmware via Net and press Enter, screen displays "[Enter] Version xxxx." If I select Enter, after a small pause screen displays "Error 0-13 DNS Error." I should also mention that I have reset the receiver several times but to no avail.

I spoke to Crutchfield Technical Support, and they think it is a bad receiver.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

What is the IP address you are getting on the receiver?

IP Address... 169254243. I assume it is 169.254.24.3

A 169 IP address is a global IP. You will need a 192 IP address. That is why you're getting the error. Please check with your router manufacturer to find out why the router is giving a 169 instead of a 192 IP address.

That is the correct format for the IP address. Were you able to download the firmware update?

Before I replied I thought I would give it one more try. I changed ethernet cable and reset the receiver. I selected Firmware via Net, and to my amazement the firmware downloaded. However, I still could not get any sound. I connected the FM antenna and was able to pick up one local channel. I wanted to see if I could get internet radio to work. I tried Vtuner but could not get any station to play. I selected Pandora since I already have an account. After figuring out how to enter my username and password I finally got Pandora to play.

I cannot tell you how long I wanted a nice audio system for the home and be able to play internet radio. Just by having a left, right, and center the sound is amazing.
