Rc-803M Capabilities

The literature that accompanied my receiver states that the remote, RC-803M is a Learning Remote but, I cannot find a any info regarding this. Am I missing something here?

Referring to the information found from pages 66- 68 of the TX-NR 609 manual; this controller is capable of programming of Onkyo and non-Onkyo devices and providing basic remote operation using the controller keys found on page 68.
