TX-NR616 Searching HDMI
Receiver - NR616
Projector - Optoma GT720
Blu-Ray / DVD - Panasonic DMP-BD65
Cable Box - Explorer 2200 (Non HD - Comcast)
Firmware - 1110-8106-0300
When watching through the DVD player (either a disc or streaming) I randomly lose video - audio remains - for a few seconds and I get a box in the lower right corner "HDMI Searching", it finds it and video comes back. (I don't need to do anything.)
Does not do this when using cable box (component out on CB)
The DVD player is the only device that uses an HDMI out.
Any suggestions - it's really annoying.
Thanks,
JD

Re: TX-NR616 Searching HDMI
Hi JD,
How long is the HDMI cable from the back of the receiver to the projector?
Thank you,

Re: TX-NR616 Searching HDMI
3ft from Receiver to wall outlet, 25ft from back of outlet to projector.

Hi JD,
Just as a test can you try a shorter HDMI cable from the back of the receiver to the projector?

Re: TX-NR616 Searching HDMI
Not really - the 25ft HDMI run through the ceiling, in the attic and down the wall.
My confusion is the inconsistency - kids watched Netflix all day w/o problem.

Re: TX-NR616 Searching HDMI
So - I pulled a little extra cable from the attic, enough to disconnect the outlet. I have the 25ft cable direct from the projector to the main out on the receiver. I tried two different 3ft HDMIs from the BD/DVD to the receiver and tried different HDMI inputs on the receiver. It still randomly searches for a signal, but now also has a flashing green, mostly on the lower portion of the screen.
Just don't know what is causing it, or how to fix.
I have no problems coming from the cable box (using component into the receiver).

Long Run
25 ft is long run for HDMI even if you're using absolutely top-notch cable. One thing that springs to mind is that the player or amp might be set to output 1080P. You could try setting a lower output resolution and let the projector handle the scaling? 1080i would halve the datarate in the cable and going down to 720 or even standard def would further reduce it, which should give a more robust signal.

Re: TX-NR616 Searching HDMI
Is the setting to in the receiver to limit it to 1080i? If so where?
25ft is a long run for HDMI, really?? Why manufacture and sell 50/75+ ft HDMI if 25 is a stretch...
I have a short throw projector (mounted only 5 1/2ft from the wall and throws a 105" diagonal picture) - this would be impossible with a standard projector...

Re: TX-NR616 Searching HDMI
It depends if you are using the upscaling facility of the amp, if indeed it has any. Otherwise, check the DVD player menu.JD wrote:Is the setting to in the receiver to limit it to 1080i? If so where?
It's true that there is no specification for maximum cable length in the HDMI spec, but the run length will be limited by the quality of construction and the bandwidth of the signal you are trying to pump through it. A 1080P signal requires twice the bandwidth of a 1080i signal and that extra requirement may be too much for a long cable run. Have a look at the Cable section in the Wikipedia article about HDMI: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI25ft is a long run for HDMI, really?? Re: TX-NR616 Searching HDMI
We are still in the progress of resolving this issue; but would like some information from those afflicted with this issue to provide the following data for further research:
• Make/model of source device(s):
• Does this happen with all sources? If not, which one(s)?
• Make/model and length of HDMI cables/extenders/etc :
• When does this happen (always at initial power on, when switching sources, while watching a particular source, combination)?
• Make/model of TV/ Projector:
• Approximately how often does this happen (1 out of 10 times, etc)?
• How many times has this happened?
• How long has the unit been installed?
• What is the exact firmware version (check by going to FW update via the "Home" button on the remote)?
• What is the HDMI Monitor Out setting (Auto, THRU, etc)?
• Are you using HDMI OUT MAIN or SUB?
• What is the Picture Mode (Custom, Cinema, Through, Direct, etc)?
• Is HDMI Control (RIHD) On or Off (look in Hardware Setup-> HDMI)?
• Is HDMI THRU On or Off (look in Hardware Setup-> HDMI)?
• Is Net Standby On or Off ((look in Hardware Setup-> Network)?
• What is the Incoming and Outgoing video resolution (press the Display Button on the front panel until it shows both… should be something like "1080p/60 -> 1080p/60")
We appreciate all responses and look forward to resolving this issue promptly. Thank you again for your patronage, patience, and cooperation.
