I have a brand new SR309 receiver, connected to a 46" Samsung LCD. I have a Motorola cable box connected to the receiver via one of the HDMI inputs. For some reason, my non-HD channels now have a black frame around them, ie., the picture has shrunk. The HD channels appear to be fine. Any ideas?

Hi gpas1,
The issue you are having is not caused by the receiver, but the TV interupting the signal. Do you have the latest firmware update on your cable box and also what is the model number of the cable box? Thank you for choosing Onkyo.

The model is DCT 3416 I. I managed to find instructions in another forum on how to update the firmware. So I did that. There is also a menu item that allows you to set the picture size. I changed it to 'stretch' hoping it would work, but it doesn't. Like I said, the HD channels all work fine. It's the others that don't. Most are 4:3 and have a black border on each side, and some have a black border all the way around. The Samsung has a 'stretch' feature too, however, what happens is then the HD channels become too 'zoomed in'. I used to have it set to 'Just Scan'.

I'm convinced now that it is not the receiver. It's something in the Motorola box. What's happening is there is a 'stretch' option in the Motorola setup screen. When I set it, everything is fine. What happens is the Motorola doesn't keep the setting so the next time I turn it off and on, all the settings revert to default. Not sure why this is happening, all of a sudden. Thanks.
