TX-NR1007 No Sound
This appears to be a recurring theme on this web site. I too have a TX-NR1007 that has been experiencing intermittent sound output requiring either repeated cycling to standby and back to on or the occasional unplugging. That has recently ceased to work and a reset to factory defaults was necessary to restore sound. Now, nothing provides sound from any input, HDMI, optical, internal tuner - all have no sound. The problem started shortly after the firmware update I performed about a month or so ago. Any suggestions?

Hi jschirra,
If the reset has not resolved the issue then it would need to have an authorized service center do further evaluation on it. Please go to our main page and under support you will find your nearest service location.

Re: TX-NR1007 No Sound
I took my receiver to an "authorized" service center here is southern California. The first thing the guy said is not another Onkyo. I don't have any more room to store them. He asked what is the problem. I told him that the audio has gone out for all sources but the video is okay. He showed me a rack full of Onkyo receivers and said "It's the same thing as all these. It's a board problem. They keep coming in and I can't fix them all." He wanted $25 to box the unit up and send it back to Onkyo since he had no more space.
Sounds to me like there is a significant deficiency in the design if the service center can't keep up with the incoming flow of units. I also find it interesting that Onkyo is keeping this quite instead of identifying it as a known problem. I wonder how many people are paying for repairs out of warranty.
Time to come clean and altert customers to this problem.

Re: TX-NR1007 No Sound
I left a voice message with the parts and service department last week but have not received a response. I followed up with three emails. I did get a response from my first email requesting a copy of the invoice which I sent in a reply to the second email. I waited a couple of days and resent everything again to the general email. I only have four weeks left on the warranty. What do I need to do to get this thing repaired since your service center would not accept it and I cannot get a response in a reasonable amount of time from your parts and service group?????

Re: TX-NR1007 No Sound
The receiver was returned from repair and sound is now back. Apparently, the HDMI card was replaced. I also now have network capability that was not working properly previously. However, the default Internet radio presets were deleted. Your FAQ indicated to do a factory reset to return vTuner to position 1. When I did the reset, nothing changed except I lost the other settings I had enabled. Any suggestions on how to re-enable the vTuner and other Internet radio factory presets?

Hi jschirra,
When you say "the default Internet radio presets were deleted" are you suggesting that you had these stations preset previously? If you could provide more detail it will help me assist you further. Thank you.

Re: TX-NR1007 No Sound
I found the factory preset info at the bottom of the WEB setup page. It must be manually copied into the correct position after the reset.

Re: TX-NR1007 No Sound
It likely is a faulty HDMI card. If it is in warranty, contact Onkyo customer support. If it is out of warranty, you will likely need to take it to a repair center and have them test it and perform the repairs. From what I have seen on the Internet, there are lots of this vintage Onkyo units with the HDMI card failing. It would be nice if Onkyo recognized the problem and extended the warranty.
