TX-NR717 help with connecting your Wii system and other questions
Hi All,
Having some problems connecting our Wii game to the TX-NR717. The Wii has component connections and sound on the same cable (total 5 RCA type connectors, but I know it is component with the other two for the audio I believe) from when we bought the system. Hooked up and worked great on my old Onkyo TX-SR706 that is a killer receiver.. upgraded only because of new 3D TV and the SR706 was not 3D ready as I was told when I bought it in 2010.
Anyway.. Any help from someone who has hooked up their Wii system to the TX-NR717.
Questions.. where and how do you have all the cables hooked in the back of the 717? I believe the 717 upscales to 1080p. What do I have to do with the Wii game and TX-NR717 video settings to get the best possible output of picture and sound. Running 7.1 with front highs. All matched Klipsch Synergy speakers. Fronts are the F-30's, with the C-20 Center Speaker, front highs and surrounds are the S-20 Surround Speakers. GREAT ONKYO SOUND when it works.
Any help you can give on the Wii System hookup would be great. Thank you in advance. Now if I can just get ONKYO to reply about the other issue I am having with HDMI handshaking and picture snapping in and out at any time. Changing HDMI input (as told by Onkyo Support) fixes it for a little while.. then comes back. Have had questions about that in to Onkyo Support I am told we are working on it and will let you know when we have a solution. This has been going on since beginning of October. Now I am on third receiver since August 30th. All I want is some assurance that this is going to be corrected.. that I am NOT STUCK WITH A LEMON! All communication from Onkyo has stopped... even after assurances by upper support management that this will be followed through until the end. NOT! FlyByNgt 11-7-12 5:44pm EST

Do you read the postings..?
I was asking how to hook up my Wii system to the Onkyo TX-NR717 receiver.
As for you asking for all that information.. ONKYO HAS IT ALL. I will not re type it out again. One of your support reps was very kind and nice to me until I asked about this new issue about the flashing of the picture and sound on the receiver. Last e-mail I received said "Also note that we are working on finding a resolution to the problem you are experinecing. I will follow up with an email as soon as I have more information for you" I first reported this issue on 10-10-12. It just seems like once Onkyo might repair or replace your units they drop you. No follow-up e-mails, calls, etc. Tomorrow will be the 10th. One month of in lab testing and nothing?? I have asked if there was going to be a firmware update for the TX-NR717 with no answer. After many assurances. I have every bit of communication.
As far as shipping my unit back to NJ. At this point I do not think this is a necessay step.. ONKYO STEP UP AND FIND OUT WHAT IS GOING ON. Scanning the threads seems like the 717 is not the only affected.
As I have said in forum postings and/or emails I am very happy with the unit when it works well. But to have company over and in the middle of watching something you get this snap/flash is very annoying and embarassing to say the least for a new receiver. All I have ever asked for is communication and a unit that works as it should.
Can someone please provide how to hook up the Wii system to the TX-NR717. Thank You.

Re: TX-NR717 help with connecting your Wii system and other questions
Yes I have read ALL of postings and simply advise to have your unit evaluated; as one seem to be currently the ONLY person affected by all the issues you have mentioned. We have no issues in replicating these issues with our TX-NR 717s on the premises; so we simply wish to see what exactly is occurring with your receiver. If you'd like to assist Onkyo and yourself; please reply back with your desire to have your unit shipped to our NJ facility so we can begin evaluating the self-explained issue(s) with your TX-NR 717 receiver.

TX-NR717 working GREAT NOW!!!
Hi All,
My TX-NR717 since Saturday has been working great with no picture and/or sound snapping. The TX-NR717 is a GREAT RECEIVER! Always said that about Onkyo Products - That is the reason for the past 35+ years I have only bought Onkyo. The sound is AMAZING!! I hope it continues to work as well as it has been for the past few days for many years to come.
Thank you to many many members of these forums and others on the internet for posts about different problems on either this receiver model or others. While going through all the threads and other boards I saw lots of tips that users were doing and the one that worked was to unplug the unit for exactly 5 minutes - then as you plug the unit in, press and hold the power on button. Then do your normal power on! BINGO. I guess after any firmware updates, etc... this will be a practice I will follow. Unplugging the unit for that short period does not require you to reset everything again.
Thank you again my fellow Onkyo Forum posters and internet boards for the fix.

Still question about Wii connections, etc.. to the TX-NR717
Thank you all for your help with reading these forums and others on the net found what I will do whenever there is a firmware update or problem with my receiver.
My TX-NR717 is working unreal!! Love that ONKYO SOUND!! With my full set of Klipsch Synergy Series speakers running 7.1 with front highs in a great room with 22 foot ceilings.. the sound fills the room like a movie theater. House is a rocking again. VERY HAPPY!!
If you can please help with my original question of the hookup to the rear of the TX-NR717 for my Wii game. I have component connections from the Wii. I have picture but no sound.. Also, what about the upscaling from the 480i to 1080? How do I set that to work and get my sound to work with the TX-NR717?
Any help anyone can give would be great!! Thank you in advance.
P.S. Onkyo... Maybe in your instructions on firmware updates and other problems you could let the consumers know that after the update of the firmware to unplug the receiver for at least 5 minutes. I found on another boards to press the power button while plugging the unit back in. AMAZING NO PROBLEMS FOR A FEW DAYS.. hoping it stays this way. Just a thought. It was never suggested to me to unplug the unit from Onkyo only to do a reset. With the unplugging you do not even have to re-set up everything.

Re: TX-NR717 help with connecting your Wii system and other questions
COMPONENT VIDEO cable connections only support VIDEO; so what audio connections are you using from the Wii (hopefully the red and white RCA COMPOSITE ANALOG audio cables also from the Wii) onto the receiver and which RCA audio input terminals they are connected into? For instance; if the COMPONENT (red, green, blue ) cables are connected and assigned for the GAME input of the receiver; then also connect the red and white RCA Audio cables into the GAME IN terminals on the rear of the receiver. This will now provide the audio from your Wii console onto the receiver.
