TX-NR717 and powered Zone2/3

I am going to buy this Onkyo model because of its powered zone 2/3.
The manual says that zone 2/3 will play only of this selected source is analog.
This means, I suppose, that if I simply connect my Blu ray reader and my mediaplayer trough the HDMI cable, they won't produce any sound on zone 2/3.
If I connect those peripherals both via HDMI cable and analog cable, how will the receiver work? can I have digital sound in main room and analog sound from the same source at the same time?

Correct- you have the concept exactly: the digital audio connection will always be broadcasted in the main listening area and the RCA Analog audio connection will be broadcasted via ZONE 2.
