Question about listening modes

I was told that "Direct" will automatically select the audio output to match the audio that is being inputted..is this correct?

"DIRECT" will only allow the the current audio format being outputted from the source device to be broadcasted in the SAME format. For instance; if you select DIRECT as your listening mode and your source device (CBL box) outputs audio in DOLBY DIGITAL 5.1- the receiver will also pass that audio signal with NO signal processing and pass it thru in the same format as the CBL box. Thus, there's no procesing and reproduction of the audio signal and speaker channel output to expand it to another audio format.
