When commercial music compact discs are played on my DX-C390 connected to my HT-R390, the Audio-Info shows the output signal as Analog. I am not an audiophile, but is this correct? I do not know what file types are on a music cd. Would it appear as Digital of the music files were mp3? The cd player and amp are connected with RI and optical digital cables. thank you

I understand your inquiry; but question- how is the DX-C390 connected to the receiver- are you using RCA COMPOSITE Analog audio cables (red and white) or you using Digital Optical or Coaxial audio cable? What you are reading is basically based on the audio connection from the CD player onto the receiver; or what the receiver is currently designated to read the audio format. If you have any more questions or concerns , Please contact our Product Support Dept for further assistance with this specific issue via our phone number (800-229-1687). I am using both the RCA composite (for RI functionality) and digital optical (for optimum sound, although it does not seem to work.) How does the receiver select between the two (analog vs digital) inputs? Is there an adjustment to be made for this combination of cables? Thank you.

Yes; the receiver should see the digital audio connection as the hiearchical option. Have you gone into the SETUP menu of the receiver and under DIGITAL INPUT; selected TV/CD as OPTICAL 2? Have you also scrolled down to 8. SOURCE SETUP and in this submenu; selected AUDIO SELECTOR and confirmed OPTICAL as the preferred audio setting for this input as well? Please also view the front display panel of the receiver and indicate if you do see the DIGITAL or ANALOG text on the LED display panel as well to further indicate which audio format the receiver is currently using?

cds and mp3 Empty connections

My 3. Digital input is set to TV/CD-Optical 2. The 8.Source Setup Audio Selector is Optical. When a music cd is playing, the Audio/Info display shows the input as Analog. The Optical 2 input position on the amp is occupied by the digital optical cable connected to the TV.

Since input 2 was occupied, I have connected the CD player digital optical cable to the amps' digital optical input position 1, Game. Even with the 3.Digital Audio-Game set to Optical 1, the input signal is analog. With or without the digital optical cable no sound is heard unless the RCA plugs are in place. Is there a way to use input 1 with the CD player?

If I unplug the TV cable from amp input Optical 2, and move the CD player to this input, the sound is heard with or without the RCA cables. The display shows the input as "PCM fs: 44.1 kz" which I assume is the correct digital. This seems to verify that the cable is functional.

thank you
