Firmware Update 7/24/2012 - FAILURE
I am new to the forum as I found this while trying to find a possible solution to my problem. It would appear that there was an update notification on my NR616 this morning which I initiated. There was a failure during the update at which point, it restarted and began the update process again. After it was completed, I lost all video through any HDMI. After resetting it, the video returned but this time there was no sound. Onkyo attempted to troubleshoot it but this was unsuccessful. The sound issue applies to all HDMI ports, analog inputs, and even the onboard internet radio.
This unit is DEAD. I have had it about three weeks and am sending it back to the point of purchase, just waiting on a shipping return label.
Anyone else have any problems like this?
Currently displaying:
Firmware version: 1110-8107-0300

Hi DB_Florida_2012,
I apologize for the inconvenience but have you tried the USB update instead?
Thank you.

Update NR616
I did not want to give up on this problem so I opened up the box again and tried to update the firmware with a usb drive and the ethernet again. I started with the ethernet cable and powered on. I am not sure what I did differently but an option came up for a network update or net update, not sure what exactly it said. I clicked enter.
The 616 began downloading the update this time and went through the process of updating.
After the update was complete I turned it on again and was now able to get sound through an analog input (iPod connected), into the headphones. (previously there was no sound through any of the inputs/outputs including headphones). I have since plugged everything back in and had to complete the set up again. It is now working as it was before, all inputs/outputs have sound and HDMI is working as it was.
According to the Onkyo website, the firmware version should have been: 1130-9107-0300 (not 1110-8107-0300). While on the phone with support, they were reporting that my firmware was the most current but this did not match the new firmware previously mentioned. found on intl.onkyo.com/support/firmware/tx-nr616 dot html
I will never again do a firmware update, wasted my whole morning/afternoon with this problem.

Hi DB_Florida_2012,
I am glad you were able to complete your update successfully. As you know we do add various add-ons once in a while through firmware updates.
Thank you.

Re: Firmware Update 7/24/2012 - FAILURE
Sadly enough, I would hate to go through this again. Customer support was not able to help with this matter. While trying to confirm that the firmware was the most up to date version, they reported that the version 1110-8107-0300 was the current one. When researching the matter myself online, I found that on the Onkyo website, the current firmware version was now 1130-9107-0300. This was an important detail as there was still an opportunity to update the firmware.

Receiver is useless now
I just updated to the latest firmware, and I no longer have hdmi out on main or sub. I did a factory reset by way of the CBL/power button, now I can't even do the damn setup because it's all on the Tv. 200 people coming to my house in 4 days, and I have no entertainment.
What the hell, onkyo. Do you not test updates before releasing them on us? What am I supposed to do with this damn thing now?!

616 dead audio
I did a network update, and failed.
tried USB update, and failed on ARM Write.
now the USB and network ports don't work. HDMI in and out works for video, but the unit outputs no audio.
tried reset, nothing will make it work.
can't even force it to do a new update - it doesn't think it has USB or network ports. tried wired, wireless, nothing works.
going to call soon, but hoping somebody finds a way to revive it on this forum.

1110-8106-0300
I have a NR616, turned unit on today (7/24/12) and system read "Update 1110-8106-0300 is available"
I passed on the firmware update for now given the prior horror problem until I could read the forums, but I am confused: the above number does not match what I am reading.
Question: what is the "new" 7/24/12 firmware version for TX-NR616 please...
thanks
