TX-SR508 Zone 2 trouble

Hi all, helping a friend with his Zone 2 issue on TX-SR508. Have a SR705 myself, so I'm familiar (and the one who gets called since I recommended this fab receiver to my friend)--also doing this troubleshooting remotely, so here goes:

Spkr set up= 4 speakers in main house; 2 speakers (Zone 2) on deck.
Main house spkrs connected to Onkyo Front L/R and Surround L/R.
Deck spkrs connected to Onkyo Front High/Zone 2

In Onkyo set up, "Front High/Zone2" setting is set to > "Zone 2"

CD player connected to amp (RCA plugs) & Dish SatTV DVR connected with both HDMI & RCA plugs (RCAs to Cabl/Sat inputs on Onkyo)

The problem:

When Zone 2 input for CD player selected, only the Left deck speaker works--the right does not play.
When Zone 2 input for Cabl/Sat selected, only the Right deck speaker works--the left does not play.

Zone 2 working correctly when set to Tuner.

In all cases the Main house (4) speakers remain playing while Zone 2.
